Question about Puppy Food!
 
Hi, not sure if this is exactly where to post this question but I just got my new baby Friday & I知 trying to get him on a new food but not sure if I messed up by just giving him the new food cause his poop was not as solid as before! I知 back on the dry regular food that he was on before & i知 very new & this and do not want to cause him any discomfort so if you have any tips on this please let me know! He likes the new food alot he cleaned his bowl but I think he is just not use to it so again if you can offer any advice please do so! Thank you all so much! I wish I read/researched this before just doing it but didn稚 think it would be a problem.

hi , congrats on your new baby.
yeah, some pups dont take to a sudden diet change.
keep him on his original food for the first few weeks then just gradually start adding in the new food.
start with 75 % original 25 % new , each week just add a little more new. he should be ok .
that is what i would do....

Thank you very much! I’m taking him to the vet this week just to get checked out & make sure everything is fine! I’m sure he will be fine but on post they make you bring in new pets so they can microchip them & check them out! :)

oh yes, he will fine. just sounds like a little tummy trouble .
i am glad he is getting a trip to the vet.

Can I ask what you are feeding your new baby. I'm wondering if I am feeding my Freddie the proper food. I feed him Puppy Iams (that I leave out for him because he is so small & he seems to like it) and 2 times a day I give him Pedigrees puppy soft food (the kind that comes in a bag) I give him 1 tablespoon each feeding and he loves it. Any advise would be appreciated, I live in a small town and to go to a pet store I would have to drive 1 1/2 hrs each way.

Hi, I知 feeding him Purina Puppy Chow (dry) now cause I to was trying to give him a wet dog food for puppies (Ceasers) but I think he was just not use to it so over the new few weeks i値l slowly be introducing the wet with his dry food! I think you are doing are doing a great job as a new Mommy! I知 trying too & it痴 hard cause i知 worried about his weight! I want him to eat & be a happy playful puppy which he is but I want to make sure his tummy gets better! :) I知 trying to make sure I give him plenty of rest time!

hi, i don't like to tell others what to feed their dogs but in my opinion iams & pedigree are not the best but if that is the best you can do and he is thriving and growing and his poos are solid i am sure he is fine.. instead of the pedigree soft food maybe you could give him a couple green beans as a treat. my dogs love those..
i know how difficult the travel part is . i also live in a small town and have to travel 45 min to the nearest pet store.

Hey I appreciate the information!!! So don't do the Pedigree? With the green beans, do you used canned, cut up? Have you ever heard of Sport Mix Brand? They sell that in town...I have been calling around ;) . I appreciate any advise, really! I'm a new mom about 4 months now. My vet said Iams would be just fine, but now that I found YT I have been concerned. Yeah, I work all week and my husband can't drive, so it's kinda hard.

Thank you for the info! Do you like the Purina, has he had any problems? My guy seems to be doing okay on the Iams and my vet said it would be fine. But after being on YT I have been very concerned that I am not feeding him properly. It's very scary, cause I love this little guy so much, and he is my first yorkie. I'd die if he got sick on something I am giving him.

hi , i am sure he will do well on the iams.
i know people who's dogs ate that and lived long lives.
if you want to stay with iams, try the iams can food for a treat instead of the pedigree..
i usually use frozen green beans , just take a couple out and run them under hot water. cut them into bite size pieces.

I will try the frozen green beans!!!!! Thank you so much for all your help. Maybe someone else will know about the Sport Mix and respond, because we do have that in my area.

you are very welcome.
since you leave his food out you wont have to worry that he
is not getting enough to eat.

i googled sportmix dog food.
they do have a puppy small bites.
it looks compareable to iams.
