Yorkie scratching a lot Our Yorkie Molly is scratching an awful lot but there are no signs of fleas etc & her skin is intact (no rash) could it be her diet? she has been fed on dry dog food always. Any suggestions please |
What kind of food is she eating? She could very well have some type of allergy to a grain or a certain type of protein. |
Has anything changed in her diet? If she has always eaten the same thing and only recently started itching, I would look at other possibilities. How about shampoos? Are you or your groomer using a different shampoo? Could she not be getting rinsed well enough? That is one of the biggest reasons for itching -- it is sometimes difficult to get all of the product out of our pups' hair. Rinse, rinse, and rinse some more! :) Vets say the itching comes from one of six causes: Environmental Nutritional Parasitic Allergic Neurogenic Infectious Here's a link to run you through each of those possibilities: Cat and Dog Skin Problems | Itch-And-Scratch-Bite-And-Lick! | petMD |
This is the time of year my Rosie itches a lot too. I took her to the vet and it is allergies. She is taking Benadryl for her allergies. But I would talk to your vet first. |
Our girl has now started itching A LOT. Seems to be more so on her back. No flea's. No rash, or scabs of any sort. You can rub her back and the leg starts a kicking. She has never had this symptom. She is on the same food, and same shampoo. We have started to give her some Benadryl. She is going on 5 yrs old. Oyea she does not go out side hardly at all. She's trained to use a pad. |
I'm having itching issues right now with our little man...all 3 of them had flea...I got parastar topical treatment (HATED putting this on them! but had no other choice) before I applied it I gave them all baths with tropiclean neem shampoo...I think it may have dried out his skin to much or the neem was just to strong for his skin...He had dry spots when we got him and very itchy as well...I am no using pet silk oatmeal shampoo and that seems to work. However...I did change their food about 4 months ago...they are all getting baths this morning...HOPEFULLY his itching will stop...makes me feel bad to see him so itchy |
