Lymphnodes+PLEASE HELP Miss Mini has been battling one UTI after another lately, she also has bad allergies, infections etc....She comes from a puppymill... The last few times shes had the UTI's she also has had other problems running concurrently...now UTI only and lymphnodes are larger. Mini has had xrays etc., within the last 6 months. No stones, culture shows nothing remarkable...she has another doosie of a UTI right now... Dr. is running a thorough blood work up...and aspirated the lymphnodes for biopsy... I appreciate any input. p.s. LINDA & CLIFF WATTS KENNELS, HUNTE CORPORATION, STEVES WONDERFUL WORLD OF PETS ARE DONKEYS DUNG... |
Oh lynzy....I wish I could contribute some intelligent input, but this is way above my pay grade....Gail will be reading this and be able to give insight.....I know you are going to keep us updated, please! Poor little soul....will be praying for Miss Mini.... |
First hang in there Lynzy. I would highly recommend an expanded Thyroid panel, and even submit for evaluation to Dr Jean Dodds, www.hemopet.com. The people on the phones are very kind, knowledgeable and informative. As is Dr Jean Dodds, you could even email her with your dogs brief medical history, and see what she has to say. Now swollen lymph nodes are at their most benign just a sign of infection, and or the immune system getting overloaded for some reason(s). Now with Zoey's case, it was quickly apparent there was something really wrong. How quick? Within 48 hrs. On a Sunday we felt a quarter size "swelling" over her thyroid (that is on the neck, approximately where a human's Adam's apple is) by Tuesday it was the size of a golfball, by Wed am, her jaw was swollen, the golfball grew to a tennis ball size, her chest/armpit area was swollen, and her groins, and her lymph nodes on her hocks. I knew then we were in trouble. I won't tell you not to worry, because we do and that's that. But don't think the worse. Also I think after this run of tests are done, an internal medicine specialist might be in order. Food allergies might also be a probative cause, and something to rule out. Then environmental causation Water - what kind does she drink? I might try out distilled water for a month or so and see how she does. Hugs to you and Miss Mini. Sometimes I wish "all of us" were actually much closer so that we could exchange more than "virtual" hugs. |
If this were my dog, I'd be at Cornell seeing internal medicine specialist. |
Where are the enlarged lymph nodes ? That can be an indication as to where to start looking for a problem. Also my Lilly has cushings & the nodes in her neck are always large. Frequent UTI's can be a sigh of cushings and diabetes. |

On a good note, a large very modern hospital just closed here as they merged with another system.....anyway, there are two reuse options on the table, one is a Vet School the other condos! We will know this week! That would be great! |

Yay! Great news! |
Ok, so now I had a good long talk with the vet, in person. Mini's bloodwork is all supernormal. Her kidney number is 2 points below the norm but apparently this is a good thing. Her cytology report came in fine and she said she got right in to both lymphnodes and got real good samples. We are going to treat her with antibiotics, as she does have an UTI. We are also going to add some pain meds because her LP is pretty bad. Miss Mini, when sick, or in pain rarely shows any prominent symptoms. She has been ill more than not, so she adapts quickly and well. Its why I take her temp every couple days as well. In consulting with the Ortho and dentist, they feel that Miss Mini is just not a good candidate for a dental or LP right now. When Mini is at the dr. she allows them to do ANYTHING they want, so her teeth were examined carefully. They do NOT see anything at all remarkable, except for the fact that not one is loose and no plaque! They did NOT say it couldn't be a dental issue, but they don't strongly suspect it either. I told them about Teddy, 107Barney's dog and they said this absolutely can happen, but before they can do a dental or LP surgery they have to get those lymphnodes down as they will NOT do any surgery unless its emergency until they are down. They are going to wait 2 weeks and if they are still enlarged, they will consult with Cornell. Any thoughts? |
My thought is that I don't like their conclusions, except for the part where they are treating her for the UTI. As for her lymph nodes, Teddy's lymph nodes were the size of lemons when he had an allergic reaction. I would not be surprised if her allergy and general immunological status were playing into her overall appearance. Is this vet an internal medicine specialist or a general vet? |
