HELP!! Betty Boop ate SPLENDA!!
 
She drank the remaining portion of my cereal milk about 15 minutes ago. I called a vet (I'm on vacation) and she said she would just have some diarrhea from the milk. That Splenda is not the same as Zylitol.

What do you all think? Should I induce vomiting?????

Oh dear goodness, I hope Miss Boop does not have any serious side effects. I'll be thinking of you both and sending positive vibes for Betty Boop to not get sick.

Did the Vet only comment on the milk? I would want to know about the splenda more than anything...

Is she behaving normally? I hope everything is ok.

I probably would just to avoid the GI upset and diarrhea; but that's just me.

Splenda will cause diarrhea in dogs...not just the milk.

There is a difference in artificial sweeteners and Xylitol. Xylitol is not artificial ... it is a natural sugar substitute...everyone lumps them all together but they are not the same.

Do what makes you comfortable. I would not worry about toxic effects.

I induced vomiting about 30 minutes into it. She is acting normal and has already eaten more dog food. I'll be watching her, though. I can't believe I left my bowl on top of t

The vet did comment on the Splenda. She said it was a natural sweetener and that it wouldn't hurt her. That she would just have some diarrhea from the milk.

I knew I could count on YT members to help me. I feel more confident in your answers.

From my understanding Splenda is not toxic to dogs but it is not a natural sweetener! It is made using Chlorine!

Xylitol as I posted earlier is a natural occuring sweetener...BUT it is toxic to dogs.

Natural is not always a safe word!!

That Betty Boop is always getting into something. Glad she's ok! From my understanding there's quite a bit of controversy surrounding whether or not Splenda is even ok for humans. But it is my sweetener of choice.

Many, many years ago (70s) there was a lot of controversy about Sweet N Low...I am still using it and alive. I think. :eek:

I use to keep the cooking type of Splenda on the bottom shelf of the pantry. One day I walked into the kitchen, and there was Joey in the canister with white stuff all over his mouth. I immediately gave him the peroxide, he threw up, and I called the vet. He said Splenda isn’t that bad and not to worry. Anyway, he didn't have any side effects, and now I keep the Splenda on a much higher shelf! Hope Betty Boop doesn't have any side effects either.

So glad she is okay. The little warts can worry to death. It seems like what one is not getting into the others are. BUt wouldn't trade them for anything. Tell that Betty Boop to behave herself. ha!!

M husband said he heard her lapping and he thought she sure was thirsty because she was really going to town!! I guess it tasted good or she was trying to get it down before I caught her or both. :rolleyes: :D

Splenda is derived from sucralose...it is NOT toxic to dogs......your baby will not be affected by it!

I give Luci and my Chi's left over milk from my cereal every day. My chi's are 4 year's and Luci is 7 month's. SHOULD I NOT DO THAT? My vet said it was fine. J ust want to get you girl's opinion

Again, thanks to everyone who responded. When I need help, I know I can always count on my YT family. Betty Boop never had diarrhea from the milk like I thought she would. I guess it was partly due to the hydrogen peroxide chaser. :rolleyes: This whole ordeal didn't slow her down any.:)
