Yorkie is pregnant We have a male and female yorkie that love spending time together, so I assumed that it would be ok for them to be together until she stopped bleeding, but it turns out that I didn't seperate them soon enough. Really stupid mistake. Chewy (the female) wieghs 8 pounds, but the male, Skyler is 10 pounds, what can expect, is this too big of a difference? Is it going be complicated? How big can I expect the litter to be? We can't afford an xray so I don't know what I am going to do, the vet has confirmed that she is pregnant though, he did a full physical on her, but he didn't really completely answer my questions. I am really scared for chewy, I don't want her to die. I couldn't imagine life without her. I also need some info on birthing puppies and how to help chewy before and after the birth. I guess I need preparing advice. Thanks so much. |
what i heard.. just passing on to you is that.. since your female is a big 8lb... you shouldn't worry much as the bigger the dog.. the less complications. On the other hand if your female is a 4lb dog and the stud is 10lb then she might have complications. But as far as your dog go, she is a big dog so birthing won't be all that bad. Its the little ones that you have to worry about. ANd also I believe that the bigger the dog, the more chances that they have more puppies than the small dogs. I visited this lady who have a big female also.. maybe in the 8-9lb catagory.. well her female gave birth to 9 puppies... WOW. Good luck.. cus i'm in your shoes also.. my yorkie is about a month pregnant also...she is 6lbs. |

THanks so much, that is so helpful!!! |
At 8lbīs she is a good size for breeding but remember she is still a toy breed and 8lbīs isnt huge either;).Even 10pounders can have trouble giving birth and need a c-section,so make sure you have a little money put aside just in case;).It is always wise to have an x-ray done to see how many pups the mother is carrying, how big they are and if she is wide enough to deliver them...etc.Being 8lbīs doesnt mean you can sit back and relax so always be prepared for any complications:) She could give birth without any complications at all (Im hoping this is your case:) ) but its always best to have a plan 2 just in case you have to run to the ER in the middle of the night.I hope all goes well, keep us posted:) |
