Karo syrup ? I am throughly enjoying the forum. So happy I stumbled upon it :) I read somewhere to add 2 teaspoons of Karo syrup for every 2 cups of water. Mix well (if not will settle on bottom) to keep yorkies from getting hypoglycemia. Has anyone else tried this ? |
If your baby has a known issue with hypoglycemic episodes, then you could do this, but just as a routine thing, I wouldnt suggest this. Yorkies do not have hypoglycemia issues just because they are Yorkies....now if your particular pup has had episodes and you are having to routinely give NutriCal, then this could be a solution....I dont know about this ratio....this water thing works well if the baby isnt eating very much....you would be getting sugar into his system with his drinking water...but I would not do this unless you have been having problems with hypoglycemia and the baby not eating. |
If your suspecting hypoglycemia, can I suggest staying away from simple sugars. Yes if you notice a sudden drop in your baby by all means a sudden up is needed. To maintain, use complex carbs. They break down to sugar slower and help avoid the fast ups then crashes. I used Cheerios for potty treats. Along with carrots, yams, Kidney beans, Peas, Probiotic yogurt (all natural) throughout the day. Since learning how to maintain blood sugar levels that a great yorkie talk taught me about diggy never suffered another seizure. I hope this helps. |
