They really need help :( Hi everyone, im new to this forum but I have recently posted about my new puppy that was 8 weeks and not eating properly but she is now nearly 11 weeks old and eats like a lion :) So she is a very healthly and playfull girl. The help I need is... I have rescued two yorkies boy and a girl they are in poor condition you have no idea on how skinny these poors little guys are. They are both 2 years old, their coat are poor as well they have no hair in their ears very little hair on head and legs they look always afraid they only want cuddles and be on my lap. Their scalp is like if they had drandruff, I gave them a bath but it still looks like they have drundruff. They are so thin that I think my 11 weeks old puppy is stronger then them. Im trying to feed them different things at the moment they are eating my puppy food because its a problem to give them adult because my puppy will eat it. Im also trying to feed them as many times as I can but sometimes they are not very interested in their food. I gave them wormer just in case they did not had it. But please I need some advice. I would like to post some pictures but I don't know how :( Please can anyone help me with that? Thanks |

have they been to the vet for a complete wellness exam ? That would be the best place to start. I have to say it can be dangerous to administor worming meds without vet approval because some dogs can have serious side effects. If they will eat the puppy food i think that would be fine for now. It may help them gain some strength and weight. Please take them to the vet to be checked over.. posting pics is easy. scroll down to the bottom of your thread(the post you started) in the left click on post reply. when the window pops up , at the top you will see some icons. click on the little paper clip (next to the smiley face) and follow the instructions.. |
They are just with me for two days so they haven't been to the vet yet. The wormer I gave them was drontal for puppy. I can feel each bone of their body. I will post some pictures so you will see what im talking about :( Thanks for your help |

I am sure they are going to be so happy with you once they are settled in and feeling better. It is so sad that they had such a rough start but now they have great home with someone who will take good care of them. Will they eat the puppy food ? If not, you could try a little boiled chicken mixed with it. oh and i forgot to say , their skin and coat is probably dry and flaky due to poor nutrition. that should get better in time but you can check with the vet when you go |
Thank you very much for your help:) Another thing im a bit worried is I don't know if she is in heat or is due to start because he cant stop trying to mount her he is just crazy all the time trying to mount her and she is running around and when he got her she lie down do you think she could be in heat? I have no experience with that I don't know what to do |

oh yes, if she is not spayed she could definetly be in heat and if he is not nuetered she will get pregnant. if you dont want puppies you should get them nuetered as soon as possible do you have a way to get them to vet soon? |
You need to get these pups to the vet for a wellness check. You certainly DO NOT WANT them to breed, especially in the horrible condition they are in now. It only takes a moment of unsupervised time together for them to tie...you need to separate her from the boys and keep her separated until she is well and built up enough to have her spayed....I doubt the boys are healthy enough to be neutered at this time either, so you will need to have the vet help you get them built up...they have high calorie, easily digestable prescription food the vet can recommend for the babies. Congratulations on your "instant" pack! |
Well yes I will take them to the vet tomorrow :) I just wanted to make sure that she is or not in heat because she is not bleeding and her vulva is not swollen so I think she isn't but I don't just understand why Bob (the male) doens stop running and trying to mout her if she is not in heat sometimes she is sleeping and he is mounting but no tie because she doenst want does the males goes in heat as well? lol |

that is good that you can get them to the vet tomorrow. If you cant get them both fixed at once you can at least do the male and you wont have to worry about puppies. |
OMG how sad. :(:( We recently took in a Beagle that was in the same situation. She was so skinny it was scary. And she was losing hair on her body. I think that is from major lack of nutrition. When DH found her she was eating grass. When he got her to me, I was in tears. After not finding any owner to claim her, we decided to keep her. Until I could get her to the vet, I gave her some of my girls home cooking and supplements. I think the supplement did her some good. She needed the extra vitamins. I used chicken, brown rice, sweet potatoes, green beans, etc. Then added the vitamins too. Believe it or not, she is doing great now. Hair has come back and well lets just say she doesn't have any ribs showing. We do feed her dog food now but I think the home cooking gave her a "jump start" on getting back in good health. |
One more thing, you might want to keep your puppy separate from the rescues. I know when we got the Beagle the girls were not allowed around her until we went to the vet. It is just a precaution as you don't know about their history and what shots they have had. Just a thought. |
I haven't been able to take them to the vet yet :/ I was looking at their ears and they look black and no hair at all the same with their tail and they have very little hair on head and the hair isvery thin Can you tell me any supplement I can give them to help the hair grow back and simulate their appetite ? And what to do with their ears? Also what home cooked can I make them so they can gain a bit of weight ? Thanks for all your help:confused::confused: |
