Interceptor production?
 
I only have 2 months left of interceptor and I'm starting to worry!! I was just wondering if anyone has heard any updates about when production will continue? I didn't have any luck searching online and I'm really hoping I don't have to switch heartworm meds!

Even if they do start back, I don't want to use them for at least a year to be sure all is really worked out for the better. I had to switch to Heartguard Plus last Thursday but Tibbe took it fine - chewed it all right up.

Their site has a contact us phone number Novartis Animal Health US, Inc.
I'm not use how I did it but I checked my supply and I still have 9 months left before I have to worry.

What other options are there?

We use K-9 Advantix Plus so it can't have flea stuff included.

But is says it is stored product and "We want to ensure that we get back to normal production
schedules as soon as possible.” It has contact info

I'm running low too. Probably switching temporarily to heartgard. I'll buy and use interceptor as soon as it's available again. The problems with Novartis weren't regarding animal medications so in not worried about safety.

I didn't see a date on this press release. Just the old one dated Feb. 2012 that was below.
Oh lord they really need to get it back in production. I hate, hate anything to do with Heartguard or Iverheart which is what I'm going to have to resort to. :(

What is it that you are so passionately against these two drugs? Just curious....I dont use either of these products but I like to know what it is that people dont like about any product.

This was what I read, although there was one report long after the factory shutdown that there may have been a problem with Interceptor. I think it was an internet rumor/misinformation, because I never found anything more on it.

I will be overjoyed to be able to continue with Interceptor. We have about 3 months left and I was dreading changing. Interceptor covers a couple more things that none of the others do, and here in swampland, I think it is important.

Actually, they did admit that there might be a contamination problem with their heartworm meds:

From the article: Last week, the company sent a letter to veterinarians alerting them that a prescription medication for dogs that's made at the Lincoln plant might also be contaminated.

There was never a problem identified with interceptor itself. Not sure what Rx med the above press release is referring to as it doesn't say. As for heartgard, I'd use it without reservation except for daisy who can't have it. LadyJane has used heartgard for decades and never an issue. I have 6 interceptor tabs left but 4 dogs so I have to switch next month and I'd never use revolution so heartgard it is until Novartis puts interceptor back on the shelves.

As Cathy said, I have never had a problem with Heartgard.....have used it for many, many years.
I have two on Sentinel (stocked up when I heard about this problem) and I am hopeful that it will be back before I am out of it. The only reason I use it is because they are two little ones that just will not eat Heartgard. They came to me from a bad breeding situation and they are very odd about treats.

I have had 3 that got very sick on it. Once I have problem with a med I don't want to use it anymore.
Same as if I eat a certain food and I get sick from it, I won't ever touch it again.
I know many people who use Heartguard and Iverheart with no problem at all. My new girl Luci I have to give her Iverheart and then the Program pill.
I guess it's just an issue with me. LOL

If three got sick, is it possible it was something else? Seems like a high number.

I do understand that once you think something is bad....never again. I got horribly sick once from Chick Fil A and you could not get me near that place again.

I would be inclined to think that, BUT these were at different times, years apart. My first was my late Lizzie, it was 1997 when it happened, then the next was my late Audrey and it was 1999, then my late Shayleigh and that was in 2001. After each incident with the dog I changed to Interceptor at the time and never had a problem again.
Now my Luci hasn't had the Iverheart yet, as we gave her a Sentinel that my Vet still had. They only had 1 single Sentinel left. So her next pill will be the Iverheart and I pray there is no problem.

I am wondering if, since you have already had a bad history with Iverheart, maybe Revolution may be better, just until Interceptor becomes available again...? Maybe you already had a bad experience with Revolution too?

This is frustrating. We are just hoping they start production again within about 13 months so we don't run out. I think my vet is out. She has not heArd the one year shut down news. I do wonder at this point if they will ever make it again...whhich would be a huge loss.

My other dog takes Heartgard. I have not had any problems at all. It is a great drug. Ellie just can't have it. If our Iinterceptor rus out, we will be stuck with Revolution or Advantage Multi for her...and IMO there seems to be extensive concern about Revolution's product failure. I just don't trust it personally. My vet does not really like it either.

ETA: I'd be nervous to buy heartworm meds online, but if some of you don't mind, it looks like it is still available. Allivet was going to let me go to checkout with it just now. Wonder if it would say backordered adter submitting.

No I haven't tried Revolution. But I did have a bad experience with Frontline.
I guess I just have wacky dog's. LOL Better yet, I think it's the Mom that's wacky. LOL

Back when it first started, when my Vet ran out. I was able to get some for Willow and Allie from Foster's and Smith. But when I tried to get some for Luci they are all out.
I even tried my Target Store as they do Pet Med's now. They were out of 2-10 pound Sentinel and Interceptor, but still had some of the 25-50 pound size.

I'm a little behind in the loop so I just found out last week about this. I took my cocker spaniel in for her heart worm test because I was getting low on her interceptor. The vet told me about it and I was worried because I had ran out. My vet gave me some samples though but I'm guess I'm going to have to switch.

Anyone try Trifexis? I'm thinking about trying it.

I hope all is well soon. Mine hate Heartguard. Have to hide it in cheese or peanut butter. Even then it is difficult. It's like they know.
