Pea size lump on back of neck I discovered a Peasize lump on back of Max's neck When I pet him he squealed in pain. I noticed this little bump First a week ago & thought it was an ingrown hair. Hadn't Monitored it & now I see it's gotten bigger & he feels pain to touch. Does anyone have a similar experience? |
If he's squealing in pain, he needs to be seen by a vet. |
Trying not to scare you here...but Jada had a small pea size lump on her back right between the shoulder blades. I took her in right away because lumps scare me to death. Long story short....she had to have surgery the day I took her in. They sent the growth off to the lab for testing. It was a ingrown hair and it had calcified and was still growing. It was almost to her spine, it was so deep. Get your baby into the vet, it may not be the same thing, but it isn't something you want to wait and see what happens. |
Could it possibly be a tick. My sister's cocker had a tick on her Friday and she had to take her to the vet to get it out. I hope it's something minor. Please let us know what the vet says. |
This could just be a follicular cyst - many dogs have them come and go their whole lives. However, they usually aren't sensitive to the touch. My suggestion would be to take him in and have it looked at. If it's small enough, they can sometimes be removed w/ a quick biopsy punch. Otherwise, some sedation if they need to excise it. Once they send it to the lab, you'll know what it is. Is it solid or mushy? Does it move? Does it have a whitehead? Is it red and irritated? If it's red, hot, painful, and has swelling around it -- then, you really need to suspect infection. |
Sounds like Max need's to go to the Vet to get it checked out- Hope all is well- I will be sending good thoughts and prayers for him. |
Sounds like he definitely needs to get into the vet. |

Max had a spider bite... Quote:
Vet took a sample of it said it was a spider bite & should heal on its own which is now gone & Max is doing great. I worry about Max a lot I guess. He's an elderly dog 8 yrs old, so loving..., thank you everyone for your time & input.:) |

Tell the little guy to stop hunting those bugs! :) |
Cesar has a lump on his back that is noticeable when you pet him. It isn't discolored or anything and he doesn't yelp when I touch it or anything so I assume he doesn't even know it's there. When I took him into the vet a few weeks ago for his shots I asked about it and he felt it and said it's probably nothing, just a cyst and that many dogs get them. He said keep an eye on it and if it gets any bigger then I should bring him back in. It scares the crap out of me too. My shepherd chow had a grown on his back that turned out to be cancer. We had it removed when he was just a few years old and he lived to a ripe old 14 years before I had to have him put down because he could not walk or eat on his own. I am hopeful that there is nothing wrong with Cesar but worst case if it is cancer I will get it removed and hope that he can live a long healthy life like Shemp was able to do (RIP). Glad your dog is doing well. |
