Itchy dry skin Hi, im new. Weve just rehomed a 2yr old yorkie. She has terrible itchy dry skin. Ive changed her diet but wondered what sort of cream/lotion i can put on without turning her into a gunky mess. Anyone tried baby oil? thanks! |

just curious.. i think your best bet would be to take her to the vet. i would not put cream of any kind or baby oil on her. she may need an anti itch shampoo presrcribed by the vet. |
I agree with oscar. Vet visit :) Cant hurt. Then I would say bath with a quality soothing shampoo. There are great oatmeal shampoos on the market that help with dry skin. Allergies can also cause horrible itching and is very painful for the furkid so Id get a diagnosis first and go from there. |
Ive been trying to look into a good shampoo for my itchy yorkie. Shes allergic to grains so Ive read giving her an oatmeal bath could make things worse. Not sure if food allergies are causing your dog to be itchy but may want to ask the vet what the best shampoo would be. |
This is the shampoo/conditioner I use for Teaka: PetSmart - Vet's Remedy Anti-Bacterial & Anti-Fungal Shampoo & Conditioner for Dogs customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings This is the rinse I use: I have fantastic results with them. Now that I know what makes Teaka itchy, its not really a necessity, although I will continue to use them.:thumbup: from me! |
After Ian's bath, I sometimes will give him a coconut oil rinse. I just add about two tablespoons of organic coconut oil to clean bath water, and let him sit for a few minutes while I pour the water/oil mixture over him. I then give him a quick rinse with warm water...no more itchy skin. |
