Purina Fit & Trim My yorkie is a little overweight. Our vet suggested the above food. Has anyone used this food for their yorkie? I am currently feeding Max Eukanuba (if I could even spell it) lol. The vet tells me that Eukanuba has a lot of fat. I guess I never realized that before until she brought that to my attention. I just automatically thought that if there is a yorkie on the bag it must be good for my yorkie. How silly of me to think this. I would appreciate your thoughts. :aimeeyork |
I don't personally like Eukanuba or Purina. I'm sure some dogs do fine on them, and they have their place, but I try to avoid by-products, wheat, corn, soy, unnamed meat sources, etc. But not only that, I like to have the food coming from a smaller plant, produced in their own facilities (i.e. not outsourcing, like the whole recent Diamond fiasco). If you're on a budget, check out Nutrisource or Precise. I also really like Champion Pet Foods (Orijen/Acana), Fromm, Petcurean Foods (Go!/Now!), Lotus, Canine Caviar, Earthborn, etc. If she needs to lose weight, try to simply feed less and exercise more! |
Can't you just cut the amount of kibble, give veggies as treats and increase the exercise. I wouls look into a different brand if it was me. I know Wellness and Blue Buffalo make weight loss/ healthy weight formulas. I personally no longer trust Purina since they refuse to recall tainted jerky treats. |
I have never fed any Purina foods to Teaka. However she needs to lose weight as well. I switched her to Now! (Senior/ weight management) by Petcurean. So far so good. It's grain free and has 341 calories/cup. She only gets 1/4 a cup daily. Plus I've been playing with her daily, making her run up and down the hallway. It's only been a week, so no real progress yet. Hopefully this works for Teaka. |
Please do not buy or feed your dog a Purina food they are the makers of the waggin train treat jerky that is killing dogs and making dogs sick and they will not pull it. Don't support a company that just wants money and doesn't care about your dog at all. |
I have 2 that are overweight and 2 that are not. The vet put them on Purina Pro Plan. Kayla's hair has always been sooooo thick and pretty. She is losing hair in clumps. I mean big clumps of hair. I changed them back to Blue Buffalo weight management diet. Bathed her today and she is doing some better with the itching and I picked up about 4 or 5 clumps of hair. If this had of kept on, I would have a bald yorkie. No more Purina here. |

Purina Fit & Trim Thank you all for your replies and input. I think after doing some research I may try Wellness Small Breed Healthy Diet. After hearing all the talk about Purina I certainly do not want to spend my money on their food or any dog products. Thanks again. :) |
