My Yorkie has seizures My soon to be 5 year old Yorkie, Lola, started having seizures a year or so ago and has not been the same since. We brought her to two different Vets and both diagnosed her with neurological issues. It's extremely sad for us to see her stumble and fall and she no longer plays like the puppy she once was. This Saturday she had a bad seizure that seems to have been brought on when she saw a squirrel in our back yard. It's been 3 days and she still has not fully snapped out of it. She can barely walk. She can eat and still barks and wags her tail but that's about it. Is there anything that we can do to help her. It's breaking our hearts. Thanks Bob |
Im so sorry to heat about your baby:( Have you taken her to see a specialist? I would suggest that be your next step. I have dealt with neurological issues with Georgie (he had AAI) and the Vet really didn't know how to help. Once we took him to a specialist who is also a neurologist he was diagnosed in 20 minutes and in for surgery the next week. He is now the happy, playful boy he once was. You can read his story in my signature line. |
She needs an MRI & Spinal tap. This could be any number of things but Chiari would be at the top of my list & is treatable with meds. AAI is possible but usually shows up in much younger dogs but MRI would see that as well. I can tell you that her symptoms are serious & NEED Prompt & Proper treatment or it is likely that you will loose her. Also was she vaccinated just prior to the onset of her symptoms ? |

The last time she was vaccinated the symptoms got worse and we had to rush her back to the Vet. |
I would definitely take her to the specialist. You will feel much better once a specialist checks her. We spent over $700 at Vet for multiple visits with no diagnosis and one visit to the specialist diagnosed Georgie. |
I have a baby that has seizures so I know how scary it is. I concur with everyone else and think a visit with a neurologist is in order. Good luck. |
Poor little soul....how heartbreaking to see this in your baby.....Definately, a specialist is required....if there are no specialists around you, my next suggestion is a vet school....they will have specialists there as well as the cutting edge equipment used to diagnose and treat specialties. Good luck with your baby....from reading some of the above posts, it would seem there may be some hope for improvment with proper diagnosis and treatment. |

My little Suzie (yorkie/shnauzer mix) is having the same problems... I got Suzie from a couple of construction workers about 2 wks ago. They told me they are just looking for a good home for lil Suzie and she is already weaned. I could not say no! Was feeding her wee bits puppy food, i soaked in water to soften, she was a very active and happy puppy :aimeeyork! It all started Wed the 9th at 7pm; She had her first seizure, I had never encountered anything like this, especially with a 1.4oz puppy. I immediately drove her to the Emergency Vet Clinic, once there they checked her blood sugar, it was normal but they said the seizure could have brought it back up. Since Wednesday she has had 6 seizures. She stayed at the vet for observation and blood work today, they found that she is anemic. She is too small for the liver shunt test; since they have to take quite a large amount of blood. Her last seizure was 1 hour ago. I'm just wanting my happy and playful pup back. I don't know what to do :-( |
