New Flea & Tick medicine question I received the following email from my vet today. Has anyone ever heard of or used these products? If your dog has exposure to ticks, we want you to know that we have two new tick products that are more effective than anything we have had previously. Certifect – this is a topical product made by the same company that makes Frontline. Certifect is essentially Frontline with a new ingredient added. Certifect kills ticks 4 times faster than Frontline. It also kills fleas for up to 30 days just like Frontline. Dr. Kuhn used samples of Certifect on his dog last fall and found it to be very effective. Scalibor – this is a flea and tick collar with a new insecticide (Deltamethrin) in it. The collar should be put on 3 weeks before flea and tick season and lasts for 6 months. While we have not found flea and tick collars to be very effective in the past, Dr. Harlin used these collars on her pets last year and was very impressed by Scalibor’s efficacy against ticks. |

The second one looks familiar, but I don't know anything about it. I had read about Certifect in a vet journal a few month ago. They added Amitraz. I'd skip it if possible. |

Why would you stay away from Certifect? |

I owuld be very careful of new products like this. Very often the testing is a little shall we say marginal and the ultimate testing is done on the population pet dog. I don't use anything 'new' until it has been around for awhile especially somethat that kills things like fleas and ticks. |
