Please let us know how he is doing when you get a chance. |
So, gave Ellington his meds this morning, he has had little pieces of chicken throughout the day. His poo is still liquid though. I gave him the probiotic this morning too. Tonight I gave him last of chicken and a lot of chicken water. He loved the chicken water which is good, as he is a little more dehydrated I think. I walked him, but no evening poo just yet. He last had liquid poo on way home which was about 5:30, its now 7. I'm really hoping the belly settles. I think we're both tired. He is struggling to sleep through the night without needing to go. |
Thanks for the update. I hope he recovers soon and that you both are getting a much needed rest. Let us know how he does in the am. |
Thanks for your support. Just took him to poo, and sadly it is still liquid. I'm sticking with boiled chicken and the chicken water for now. |
At this point I would be calling my vet and telling them that NOONE enjoys having the runs for several days,it is bad for your insides. I would request a med for the runny poo. Sometimes I dont ask my vet or Dr for something,I tell them what I want. The vet isnt living with your dog that is not feeling well and isnt loosing sleep over having to take him out all nite because he doesnt feel well. |
Sending prayers that your baby will be well soon. |
Ellington update - He is still a bit dehydrated, but his poo tonight had a shape. Still very soft and with muscus, but definitely had a shape. Really hope we are on the way up! |
London what did the vet say when you took him in for the visit? Not drinking (try ice chips) and diaherra can be life threatening, he must be tiny. I would call the vet again and let him know what is still going on with this little guy. |

Tell that vet you think he needs Albon for the diarrhea....if he has coccidosis, which I am almost certain all the stress has made him break with coccidiosis, he should be started on Albon, Flagyl, and an antibiotic....a course of at least 10-14 days will stop this and clear it up....this is crazy, a vet pitzing around with this while the dog is suffering and the owner is worried and spending money with continual visits back and forth to the vet!!!!! This needs to be treated and stopped!!! |
I did see London mentioning giving him his meds.....I wonder what that was to help? |
he is drinking the chicken water, so I'm giving that to him. Maybe he is just learning that if he leaves his water, he then gets yummy chicken water! He is still quite active, we've had lots of walking, and he is wagging his tail as he trots along. The vet gave him the anti nausia jab, and some probiotic to have everyday, but she didn't seem too alarmed. I actually saw two vets, and they both just said he is probably grieving a little, and will settle down. I'm keeping an eye on him, but for now, will trust my vet, they have been my family vet for a long time, and all of my friends use them too. Thank you for your ongoing concern, its nice to have a little space to share my concern for the little guy. |
That is good to hear. Hope the tail keeps wagging and he keeps drinking any kind of water. Just worried they weren't more concerned but they saw him and I am not there. |
I posted in your other thread.... Did the vet check his stool? Many things can cause diarrhea. Parasites Giardia, coccidia, samonella, E-coli, and an overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut, stress, food allergies, viruses like Parvo and distemper, etc. Mucous in the stool could be from colitis or Giardia. Probiotics help to restore good bacteria in the gut, necessary for digestion... I give it to mine with every meal. Letting a pup/dog go on too long with diarrhea can have adverse effects on their health, dehydration being one that can be deadly. Pedialyte to drink would help too. After this amount of time, IMHO, I would have a stool check and bloodwork done asap. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/dog-ca...-diarrhea.aspx http://www.dog-obedience-training-re...a-in-dogs.html http://www.dogchatforum.com/diarrhea-dog.htm |

The main vet just said he was probably just sad for his old owner, and we'd all get bad bellies while grieving and confused in a new place....... I really hope tomorrow I get to post some more posts about some fabulous firm poo! |
