Preventation Testing question... I am just wondering how often you guys do blood work test for your furbabies? I got yuna a complete blood work done back in 2010 and it came back normal. Not sure if I should be doing it again this year. Also, she has never done a bile acid test and I heard it can show if the dog has liver shunt. I am aware of the common diseases and conditions yorkies have and I am just looking for ways to catch it early... Also, my understanding is heartworm/ lyme test needs to be done every year? Do you all do heartworm test every year? |
We do bloodwork and heartworm test (even though we give heartworm preventative year round) every year, and at 3 and 6 years it's that plus serum chemistry profile, urinalysis with sedimentation, and cbc with differential. There is more that the vet recommends at 7 years and every year after that, but I'd have to look up the paperwork. I've never done a bile acid test though. |
I do blood work yearly at her yearly exam which every dog should have done as well as a heart worm test. I dont think I would do as bile acid test for the heck of it but if the vet things they may need it then that's different. |
My vet recommends doing a yearly bloodpanel, along with heartworm test. I also do a fecal. I do this every year at her Wellness exam. |
My two get yearly blood panels done to make sure everything is good :) |
I think if you can afford it; a full Blood Panel yearly. Also do at least one BATS test which essentially is an expanded liver panel test; not so costly at about $65 here in Canada with big city prices. |
