Sophia started Atopica today Well, Sophia had a vet visit today for her itching. This has been going on forever and nothing seems to work. She has started loosing hair. I'd say she has thinned out to about 40% total hair loss. She has a few bald spots as well. :( Luckily, she started off with such thick hair she doesn't look bad yet. Oddly, the thinning looks good because her cottony coat is laying better than it ever has before. But, I obviously realize that this is not a good thing and any further hair loss will be awful. I've been working with my vet on this for quite a while and today we made the decision to give the Atopica a try. I am REALLY hoping it works. My poor girl is miserable and I feel so bad for her. So, I just wanted to share and ask for some good wishes for my sweet Sophia girl. She is truly the sweetest little thing alive and I so hope this works well for her. She deserves to have a higher quality of life than itching all the time. |

Oh my! I didn't realize she had such a bad problem with itching... poor baby! Have you ever tried using Revolution on her? I hope the Atopica helps. Just saw the pics... I think she's one of the prettiest Yorkies on YT! |

The Atopica is not a steroid (I thought it was at first), so it won't cause the problems the steroids do. The only cons that I know of are the cost ($90 a month) and that it might cause upset stomach. We are hoping it doesn't with her though. She will be on it for 1 month and then will get checked again. If it is successful, then she may be able to go on a lower dosage or an every other day regimen which would obviously be great. :) My vet said it usually takes a full month to see improvements...maybe after a couple of weeks. By the way...we just got back from TN again and I took some really great pictures of Sophia in her GORGEOUS dresses you made!!!! I am in love with them! Thank you again so much! |
Awww, Sophia :( :(. I really hope the Atopica helps:hands::hands::hands: !!! She is so beautiful, poor thing :( |
oh she is just gorgeous!! how can you not want to kiss her sweet lil face!! hope it helps her stop the itches!! poor baby. |
Sophia is stunning and I just love her hair. Hope the new meds gives her relief and soon. |
I am hoping the Atopica works for Sophia. Cali has been on it for 4 years. After the initial reaction to it, tired, upset tummy she has done great on it. They put her on a low dose steroid the first week she was on it to help minimize the side effects. Cali is now on it every other day so instead of 60 a month it is 30 a month. It took about 2 weeks to see improvement and about a month to stop the scratching completely. I call it her miracle drug! |

Where do you order it from? My vet office is VERY pricey on everything. But, I love my vet doctor, so I have kept going there. I wonder if this works if I should order it online or something? Thanks for the advice...and I'm so glad Cali is doing so well on it. Sophia is crossing her paws (when she isn't itching herself  ) hoping it works as well for her! |
I didn't know Sophia was battling skin problems. :( Sending prayers and positive thoughts that the Atopica gives her relief. Sophia is so beautiful! Love all of her dresses and bows. She is a perfect model. :) |
Thank you everyone for the kind words and good wishes! Day two and so far so good. :) She had her lepto booster and bordetella yesterday as well. Last night she was pretty beat. Sweet little thing just rested all night. But, her tummy is doing well so far and that is a really good thing! :aimeeyork |
