am i feeding my yorkie safely? Hi I have a 2 year old yorkie and for the past month I've been feeding him boiled boneless skinless chicken and carrots mixed with his dry dog food everyday...is this ok? |

I would also say that you may be setting a trend that you may be spoiling him to human food...not that I'm not guilty of this either. Lots of folks on here cook for their babies. I thought about it also as my boy is extremely finicky. We finally found Stella and Chewy's freeze dried and he's like it consistently, thankfully! |
It depends on how much chicken and carrots you’re feeding, if it's over 20% of his daily diet, it's too much and his diet is no longer balanced for a Yorkie. Dogs need a different balance than humans and you can’t use dog food as a supplement unless the rest of the diet is balanced. For example, Yorkies need the equivalent amount of calcium as a grown woman, calcium makes strong bones and teeth, and since carrots and chicken has no calcium you boy may not be getting enough. In a month, there is no harm but longer periods can cause major mal nourishment, and this isn’t always obvious, until it’s too late. If your just adding a tablespoon of chick and carrots, it's no big deal. |
