panting...CHF?? The last couple of nights Latte has been panting a lot. She is no longer taking any cortisone and since she's just a month shy of 10, I was wondering if she might be developing congestive heart failure. Does anyone know how they test for this? Just a blood test? |

I'm sorry Latte is having a hard time. Panting is often a sign of pain, or fever. I recommend getting into to see a vet as soon as possible. CHF in humans is diagnosed with an ultrasound of the heart, an echocardiogram. I assume it is the same for pets. |

just a week ago She was just at the vet's a week ago and he felt she was fine-we just changed her diet and took her off the predisone. She has done this panting before. I will definitely bring it up when I go in again. I think she's just getting old. Other than the panting (last night and tonight), she's eating, pooping, going for a walk and bringing me bits of trash from outside to get a treat. So I don't think it's pain or fever. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I figured it might be an x-ray or bloodwork or something. |

That's good that you saw the doc recently. Wishing Latte well. |

thanks Yep, they've seen me a lot lately since we've been on a food allergy trial-12 weeks and then had to change food again. Only the new HP food and Zyrtec for allergies. I suppose it's possible that all the cortisone isn't totally out of her system yet. She's happily staring out the screen door now. She just is so spoiled and has me wrapped around her little paws!! |

I'm not an expert by any means, but I agree, it may be related to coming off the prednisone. I forgot to mention that if Latte had CHF, the doc would have heard abnormalities when listening to her heart with the stethoscope. |
