anyone here heard of Wheat Germ Oil? I went to a feed store and talk to the guy about Mya's cotton-like coat. He told me to give her WGO. to mix it in her food. is wgo the same as allerg3?

I sure wish I could be of some help to you. Hopefully, someone will see this and be able to help you. Is your dog allergic to wheat? You could try asking your vet. I know you have to be very careful with these little ones. Good luck.:)

I don't know about allerg3. I do know that most people give Omega 3 oils for coat improvement. I have heard that wheat germ oil is not as effective as the Omega oils. Coconut is also helpful for coat. Wheat germ oil was used years ago as a coat supplement but it has kind of been replaced by the Omegas.

It's ok. Thanks for replying anyway. :thumbup: As far as her being allergic to weat... I honestly don't know. The only thing I've experienced is the itching. Once she had small rash but it went away quick. Vet told me it was allergy related but that's it. Her skin isn't dry. I don't see anything to indicate allergy other than the itching. I check her everyday she go outside for fleas. Nothing... Oh and she does paw at her eyes. If that sounds right. Lol. I don't know how to explain that. Like rubbing at her eyes...? her eyes lids look a little red sometimes. At least it does to me.

What it says about allerg3 at a website is: "Vet Solutions Aller G-3 Supplement is an Omega-3 fatty acid supplement for dogs. Omega-3 fatty acid is derived from fish oil."

The guy at the pet store recommended it. I saw it also at the vet clinic I took her to. She's been taking it everyday since I bought it. I have a very big bottle of the WGO. I used it twice in her food when she eating soft foods before I switched to the allergy3 capsules.

The best forms of Omega3 , fish oil you hear this all of the time. But I have 2 poodles that can NOT have fish in any form. The other place to get Omega3s is flaxseed oil. It is in several dog foods including Blue Buffalo. I dont know about adding more to your dogs food if it is already in their food. Ive been wanting to try cocoanut.

She eats one type of kibble food. If you don't mind, here is the information about it. Being that she's the first pet I've owned, I don't know as much about dogs as I should. A lot I've learned came from either on this website or from research.

This is the food that my puppy came home on. The opinions that I give are mine. I consider this food to be ok,but only ok. The beet pulp is just a filler and a dogs body doesnt really do much with it,other than send it through. My vet told me that of all of the things that a dog could be allergic to,this is at the top of the list. Makes you wonder WHY would it be put in your pets food? The fact that it has chicken and brown rice in it is a good thing. The thing that I personally did not like about it besides the beet pulp which can also be why some small breeds have red tear staining is that,as you get close to the end of the list there are things that I would have to go look up to be able to pronounce and see what they are for. I dont eat this way so my dogs dont either. Im not sure where this product is made but if it says anything besides USA Im not feeding it to my dogs. Way to many products have come over on boats that have killed dogs.
ALL of that being said: I did a bit of research on Dog Food Review,looked in the library here and decided on several different foods that I was interested in. Wellness is a good food but has fish oil in it,not for the poodles, Taste of the Wild is supposed to be a good food as well. There are several older threads asking about certain foods and what others use. I ultimately ended up with Blue Buffalo Wilderness for small breeds. You can look several of these companys up and ask for samples to see if your baby will eat it at all. It might save you the hassel of purchasing a food and finding out that your picky eater yorkie doesnt like it. If this does happen you can usually take the open bag back to the petstore (save your receipts) or donate it to the local shelter.
When changing your dogs food,do it very slowly. You can throw your dogs system out of balance and mess its tummy up and end up at the vet. Start with 3/4 old food 1/4 new food,feed like this for a week or so and then move to 1/2 and 1/2 and so on.

I try to stay away from dog food that has grain in it. Brown rice is better than corn but many dogs have allergies to grain. Your food does not have any added omega 3 or any oil that I see. Giving a supplement is going to be helpful as long as you are giving as directed.

Flax seed oil is a good supplement as well as coconut oil. I feed a grain free raw commercial frozen dog food to my dog. I realize that many people can't or won't do that so grain free would be the next alternative. There is a supplement called The Missing Link that has many of the natural nutrients and enzymes that are missing in kibble due to the high temp used in processing it. It also has omega3's in it.

I'm thinking on getting coconut oil. She currently take allerg3 capsules daily. Would that be too much oil or something? I don't want to stop giving the allerg3.

Blue Buffalo has a new grain free kibble out,there is the Wilderness line and there is another line all made by Blue Buffalo.
They make some great treat cookies too.

If you go online to the BlueBuffalo site you might be able to order some samples. I have gotten a $5.00 coupon from them as well.
