Which blue buffalo food is the best for a 9 month old yorkie?? I have been using royal cannon puppy food and want to switch to blue. The only problem is i don't know which one i should pick. |
you can start with the puppy, your baby should stay in puppy food for at least 2 and a half more months, blue has a few puppy formulas. hugs, |
I use blue buffalo basics - turkey and potato. My pups love it :) |

Sasha has been on Blue's Wilderness formulas for at least 3 years now but it isn't for every dog. It's grain-free and high protein. She's an extremely energetic dog so this particular formula works really good for her. Plus, she enjoys it. |
I would stick with the puppy formula for now. You can switch to adult at 1 yr old. |
We switch from Royal Canin to Blue with life protection BLUE Healthy Dog Food and although Joey liked it on the second day his eyes started running badly. They were filled with brown goopy stuff. I didn't even think of the food at first and kept him on it and his eyes got worse. I took him off the food and his eyes got better within 24 hours. We tried it again a month later and the same thing happened. So now we are back with Royal Canin, and thankful to have a food that doesn't cause teary eyes. |

I would think you could feed puppy food up to 18 months old since the internal organs are not fully developed till then. ;) |

Jackson was eating adult food by 9 months, and all life stages food for most of his life before that (except he ate pup food when I first brought him home, etc, for the first month probably). I don't think it's all that important, especially in smaller breeds who are usually typically *almost* full grown by 9 months, and for the most part think specific formulas are a big marketing ploy. The main thing you have to look out for in large breed pups is the calcium and phosphorus but w/ smaller breeds, it's not as big of an issue. If you compare puppy food with most adult foods, the formulas really aren't THAT much different.... If you want both your dogs eating the same food, I'd buy an all life stages food. |

Not all breeds are fussy eaters like Yorkies, not all breeds have tartar problems like Yorkies, not all breeds have a single hair instead of a double coat like Yorkies. Then there's the fact the Yorkies are known to have a super sensitive digestive system and are prone to pancreatitis. So it's very possible that a diet could be made with the Yorkshire terrier in mind and one that would actually meet his specific needs and problems. |
