On random days, won't eat.. So soma usually eats his food or whatever scraps I throw his way but once in a great while he will just refuse food for the day. Today is one of those days. I even tempted him with peanut butter and got nothing. I had to force him to eat some of that vitamin enriched paste to get something in there but I mean...usually by the next day he's eating again. Should i worry? Has this happened to anyone else? |
Yes! This is happening today--Latte has only eaten the tiniest bit of food. She has had some water and has been sleeping a lot. She is almost 10 years old, but through the years she has had days when she just didn't want to eat. I always feel worried when she does this, and you're right, the next morning she's back to eating. I have always heard that dogs will not let themselves starve. I think it's just a little stomach upset. |
Back to normal He started eating again like nothing today. I just get worried even though every time so far he's all better in no time. But it's nice to know other dogs do this too, it's not just him ha |
Harry has the odd day like that too....some days he really tucks into his food, on others he might have a little dainty sniff but can't really be bothered  Some days he tucks into my (absolutely delicious!! :D:D) home-cooked food for him - others all he wants is his kibble.... Trouble is, our last dog was a Hoover (I'm sorry, I meant to say Labrador!!) and until Harry reached 1 year old-ish I constantly worried about it, comparing. But of course there is no comparison...Yorkies are Yorkies (thank goodness!!). Sally x |
Callie has days where she eats like a piggy and days where she doesn't eat much at all. I do have to say "scraps" are really not good for dogs so I would be careful doing that plus some dogs if getting human will stop eating there dog food holding out for the human food. |

When I home-cook for Harry, it's a perfectly balanced diet with the correct supplements. Harry's diet is far more balanced than mine will ever be. Kibble is always down, just in case he gets hungry inbetween these perfectly balanced, beautifully cooked meals - as I have been doing for 40+ years. |
I think you just made a whole bunch of us feel better! Rylee Belle does the same thing.....there are days that she eats SO much more than other days. On the days that she won't eat I try to remind myself that even I have days like that! I totally understand why you worry though.............Yorkies are a very different type of breed from any other dog I have ever had. You're just being a good yorkie mommy!!!! :) |

Gabby has those days where she doesn't eat much. First of all she usually eats 1/4 cup during the first half of the day and almost another 1/4 cup during the second half. So,1/2 cup a day and weight 5.5 lbs. Sometimes around 7 pm she still has not finished the first 1/4 C of food. We think the days she eats little is the days where she is not that active. So if we notice she has ate very little we will start playing with her and while running back and forth she will begin eating her food. |
Every now and then my Yorkies do not seem to eat anything other than a treat or two. I chalk it up to them being super smart and knowing what their bodies need (lol). I do not worry if they do not eat one day every now and then. |
I used to occasionally feed Tibbe scraps of meat but after his 4th year of life, he had some days of not eating and it worried me that there was something about the way the meat was prepared or seasoned with that was making his G-I tract unhappy so I quit giving him anything but his food - and he started back to eating his food every day, pretty much the same amount every day. I would stop any scraps of anything extra and feed only his dog food for 3 weeks and see what happens. |
