Reaction to shots? I took BJ in for her final puppy shots including Rabies. The vet gave her two shots in the back. He gave me 6 months supply of Advantage to apply monthly. A week later I noticed a small lump on her back where the shots and advantage were given. I called the Vet because it was not there before. He said she probably had a reaction to one of the shots and if it got larger or didn't go away call and bring her in. Has anyone experienced this? I lost my little Dee Dee due to a mast cell tumor on her ear. I lost my husband one month before that. I am very concerned. |
Hi! Not to worry too much. Because dogs are not shaved before getting a vaccine, occassionally a tiny piece of skin or dander can be carried in under the skin with the needle. The lump is usually a clump of cells sent to encapsulate the 'invader' and should disappear on it's own within a few months. I would keep the vet informed of any changes in shape or size. |
