Theo's breath be stanky yo! My puppy (6 months 3 lbs) has grotesque smelling breath. He's been on Artemis dog food for about a month. I'm switching to Orijen (I think) in the next week or so. Anyways his breath smells terrible. I notice there is fishmeal in the Artemis and I think there's also fish in Orijen so I think that's the culprit. Is there anything I can do or add to his diet to prevent this stank breath. also I brush his teeth at night most of the time, but it still smells |
At that age it may be that he has some baby teeth that haven't completely fallen out and they can smell pretty gross! Jaxon had 2 baby teeth that didn't fall out on their own, I knocked one out and the vet knocked out the second one (they were not truly attached anymore I would not suggest pulling on baby teeth still attached) it literally only took a little flick and it popped out. The bad breath went away almost immediately. Anyway that could definitely be causing the bad breath, have your vet check it out. Good luck! |
Thanks cadycaines I didn't think of that |
Have a dental check-up done. I got Tibbe when he was only 9 mos. old and his poor little breath smelled so bad. He needed four double teeth removed and a good cleaning. His breath was fine after that. |
Same thing with my Bella's breath. Vet pulled two baby teeth when I had her fixed at around 7 mos. |
I agree with the others, at that age they are getting their permanent teeth and losing their baby teeth and it can be quite smelly until all baby teeth are gone. Most Yorkies need a few baby teeth pulled and the vet will do this when you neuter your dog. Generally, if a dog's breath is smelly because of a food, it's not such much the ingredient, i.e. fish, it's the fact that there's something in the food that's hard for the particular dog to digest. |
Gabby's breathe was horrible until her baby teeth fell out. We would play tug with her little stuff animal and a few fell out that way. It was not out intention to have a few of her teeth fall out by playing tug with her stuffed animal it just happened. Not to worry this seems to be normal, but if they do not fall out your vet may have to remove for you. |
