Vets Credentials how to know? How do you go about finding a good vet? Is there somewhere you can check them out? How do you NOT to go to a certain vet? I know of the obvious but I was wondering is there a site to check these things. Also I've seen a link more than once referring US to a site where you can find a specialist etc., I thought I had it memorized...does anyone know what that site is? |
Here is the link to AAHA accredited vets: https://www.aahanet.org/ I would also ask people in your area for references. If you have any type of local forum, look for or ask for references (for instance, we have a local newspaper that has a website and forum with a section for pet-related topics). Last, but not least, you can visit the offices before making an appointment. |
If you are looking for specialists: Internal Med www.acvim.org Surgery American College of Veterinary Surgeons Nutrition American College of Veterinary Nutrition For regular vets, it is always good to check the AAHA site that Maximo posted. |
This is the info I was looking for thank you so much Maximo and Ladyjane, as always!!! Is there a site where you can check on their "record"? Kind of like BBB for vets or something similar? |
Strikes against licenses are by state. Some states have the info on a website. Other than that, you can look at reviews (although people are more concerned with money than with whether a vet actually knows what they are doing, so those are sometimes a waste). Search for specialists with the sites above. General vets - AAHA is a very good thing - it does NOT make a good vet though. I know of plenty of AAHA vets that I wouldn't allow to touch my dogs with a ten foot pole. It's all about starting there if you don't have anywhere else to start and then going to offices and meeting them. |
