Is this okay to feed??? My Lexi is 18 weeks old. She is a bit of a picky eater. I have tried several brands of high quality foods. Natural Balance, TOTW, Merrick's, Royal Canin (Yuck, I didn't know). I am currently using Solid Gold dry and canned. I put about 1 Tablespoon of canned, 2 tablespoons of dry and then I mix about 1 -2 teaspoons of baby food. It is usually sweet potatoes, chickens and rice, turkey and gravy or something similar. Then sometimes I will add a bit of shredded cheese. So total 1/4 cup three times a day. She is about 4 pounds and seems to be doing pretty well as long as I change up the add ins. Does this sound reasonable??? |
It doesn't sound bad since the majority of her food is a balanced diet. The food you use should be either puppy food or all life stages food though. Puppies need additional nutrients that a lot of adult formulas don't contain. Solid Gold is a decent quality food so I don't see any trouble with that, depending on which variety you feed. A little bit of baby food added to her food should be ok as long as you check the ingredients to make sure there's nothing in it that could hurt her. |
I guess I don't understand how a hungry puppy gets to be a picky eater... ZoE's ate Royal Canin puppy food as a puppy, and at just over a year old, is now on the RC adult. Any "extras" I provide (wet, carrots, green beans, cheese, peas, etc.) are a treat and in minimal amounts. |

I've about decided that Yorkies swing widely in their eating preferences if they're allowed to do so. When the boys got a 'delicate tummy' I began to mix white meat poached chicken to their regular food of W/D Lite and rice. Trouble is... their tummy's are just fine now, and I can't seem to break them of the poached chicken mix. They will do the 'wild hungry dance' only to refuse to eat a plate without the chicken... These babies are very smart...just be careful what you start, because they will insist you continue if the additions are tasty. |
