Correct Dog Food? Can someone tell me the Correct Dry Dog Food I should be feeding my 1.5 yr old, 4 lb Yorkie. Thanks.... |
well i understand your concern but there is really no one food that is right for every dog. an adult diet would the place to start. just look for a high quality food. that being ,somthing that has meat and high quality grains in the ingredients. a few examples would be blue buffalo taste of the wild natural balance solid gold just a wee bit wellness artemis canidae it also depends on what your dog likes. good luck.. |
Dog Food Well, I was feeding him Beneful, but the guy I adopted him from said that is what he always fed him. But, when I started mentioning it to people, they said that that was the WORST dog food I could be feeding him. So, I'm trying to look for a good commercial, dry, dog food to buy and feed him. |
that is good, yeah any one of the foods i mentioned would be a good choice.then again if he is healthy and thriving and having no issues with the beneful then he should be fine with it. if you decide to change, since he has been on beneful for awhile just change him gradually mix 75% old x 25% new feed that for a week or so then go 1/2 & 1/2 he should be fine.. |
I would agree that Beneful is probably one of the worst of the worst IMO. Check out Acana, Fromm, or Go!/Now! - you can find at specialty stores. If you're looking for something at Petsmart, check out Wellness or even Royal Canin would be a nice step up. :) No one food is right for all dogs. |
:welcome4: What works for some, doesn't work for others ;). I started by using Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings to compare the quality of food available at my local Petco then narrowed it down by price, etc. |
I feed mine Royal Canin. I tried Blue but they wouldn't eat it. I had mixed both in the bowl and they literally ate around the Blue.... it's a shame because I like the healthy healthy ingredients. My biggest thing is to read the ingredients on the side of the bag. If corn is the second or third ingredient listed, I keep looking, as corn is just a filler and has no nutritional value for them at all. I do keep looking though for something I think may be better for them :) Good luck with your search... xo |

I get my new little fur kid tomorrow, a 5 month old little girl who is being fed Eukanuba at the moment, so we will have to see how that goes lol.... I am soooooo excited to get a second fur kid! My skin kids are beside themselves with excitement too :D |
I like Proplan |
I have my two on Fromm. They are family owned and have been in business since 1904 with no recalls. I'm sure there are several good foods. I had a dog with severe allergies and this food is suppose to be less allergy and better for digestion. They both have done great and it has lots of veggies in it. I do feed the grain free. |
Dog Food.... WOW.......There are so many different answers and opinions. And, of course; there are a lot of "good" dog foods out there. I did buy "IAMS" because so many of the other ones were so expensive and I spoke with a Yorkie Owner in the store and she said she has always fed all of her Yorkies (9) IAMS. So, He seems to like it, so we'll try. Thanks.............Rick |
