Need help with new foster Hi everyone I just received two fosters last week. The little girl is 2.75 lbs. She feels very thin, you can feel all of her bones. She is 5 years old. The vet says all her tests are fine and she is healthy just very thin. She has to put on a half pound and I am looking for ways to beef her up. I leave dry food out all day but she doesn't eat it. Twice a day she gets wet food and cottage cheese. She get Blue Puppy which is high in calories but she is not too crazy about. Should I stop the fat free cottage cheese ? She loves the cottage cheese. |
yeah why not give her some with fat...if she loves it and try mixing it with the hard food. |
Yes I started using the cottage cheese with fat. Mixing it will probably work too Thanks so much for your input |
No advice just wishing you success in getting weight on her. Bless you for fostering. |
You could try sofening the kibble with water... are her teeth okay? Maybe she has trouble chewing hard food? I think canned food has more calories... With her being older, I'm not sure a really high protein food would be best for her. Did you discuss feeding her with the vet? Mine says it takes time for them to get skinny, so it will take time for them to put the weight back on.... supplements may not be the way to go. Just find something (dog food or an approved homecooked diet) that she will eat and that is nutritionally balanced and she'll do fine. |
