I don't use conditioner, just pure dog shampoo ? |
I'd recommend having your vet take a look at him, as some medical problems can cause this. |
My groomer said it could be his diet, but nothing has changed, will try vet again |

Once you've got the all-clear from the vet re health + diet - I wonder if you've tried the 'Groomers' shampoo? I think some of the dog shampoos are kind of too harsh for our Littlies. Sometimes, they make the sebaceous glands work overtime, which in turn makes the hair greasier. Bob Martins used to do that for Harry, so I changed to Groomers lavender + mint and it works a treat. I got it from Pets at Home. Good luck! Sally + Harry x |
I was finally able to bathe Abby after her spay- 2 days later she looked awful. My DD had just put handcream on and was petting her- At least we figured out what it was that caused the greasy look.(not the same as when my wheaten has skin issues) |
My jimmy is the same way. Not sure what kind of coat he has, he's just about 7 months and his hair looks the same now as he did when he was 12 weeks...fluffy but still falls down. He plays a lot in the grass so I can kinda understand but at the same time the grass isn't greasy ;) |
Always use a conditioner because if you don't, the body will produce the oils much faster. It sounds like a dermatitis condition which is generally caused by diet/allergy. Chicken and fish are a big source of allergies. Have you tried taking him off of dog food and just giving him veggies and beef for about 2 to 4 weeks? |
Yorkiedaze, I actually feed both dogs chicken everyday as they wont each much of anything else, but I actually did think that beef was the problem to greasy fur, so I stopped with the beef as that had strands of fat in it. Harrysmum, I will get some of that groomers as when I have been showering him, the water that comes off him is dirty |
