Need to STOP the scratching!!/ Flea Problem Hi Everyone! So for the first time ever we are fighting what seems to be a losing battle with fleas. Bambino and Lulu both have fleas and first thing this morning I will be running to Pet Supermarket to get Frontline because that works great for us. However, Lulu is scratching so bad that she is literally making her skin turn red and about to bleed. When I go through her coat I find maybe two fleas and I kill them. Lulu was not the host, Bambino was and he seems to be doing just fine. I'm really worried about all the scratching that Lulu is doing. They have been bathed with Tea Tree Shampoo and Oatmeal conditioner and that helped some but can you guys recommend any ointments or cremes or allergy medicines that I could possibly give her to stop the itching and scratching. I stop her from scratching every time I start hearing her start to scratch even if it's the middle of the night and she is sleeping but when I leave home I obviously can't control how much she scratches. I'm so mad that this is happening to her. We don't usually let our furbabies outside because of these reasons but my dad has let them play outside lately and SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I need all the advice I can get! How to treat the scratching and maybe some stuff I could spray outside on our grass or something to try to get rid of the fleas around our front porch and yard. We live in Miami so humidity is always on and cold weather is rare to none existent so the flea battle will be an ongoing problem I know. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced! : :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Hi , oh poor babies. Probably the safest thing to do would be to get a suggestion from your vet . If you put too many different things on her it could just make the problem worse. Your vet could prescribe a special shampoo and maybe a medication for the itch. For your yard you could get one of those sprays that you attach to your garden hose and do the whole area just don't let the dogs out in it for awhile. For in your house you could use food grade diatomaceous earth. Just sprinkle around in corners and stuff. ( make sure it is food grade) that is what i use in my home. I hope this helps |
Its time to take Lulu to the vet she has a flea allergy and she may need a shot to get the itching under control. When you have a dog that gets flea allergies you have to be dilligent and put the flea preventative on every month/ My dog has flea allergies and one time his immune system got so down because of it he got mange and I was treating that also so its nothing to mess with |

I went to Pet Supermarket and bought Frontline Plus put it on her yesterday and also on Bambino. I also bought Excel Hydrocortisone Spray which treats the itching. Yesterday she probably scratched only twice after I put the spray on. I also bought this organic spray that treats bedding and carpet. We are in the process of watching everything is hot water. I'm definitely going to buy the spray for the front yard and get that diatomaceous thingy. I am keeping a watchful eye on Lulu. Her skin looks normal and I don't see bites. There are no more red spots either from her scratching so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for your advice!! :) :aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

Hi Bino and Lulu Lou and everyone else on this forum. Can you please give me a little more info on the diatomaceous earth? What is that exactly and where did you find it. My lil boy Toby has recently been having oily hair too. He's almost 2 yrs old. Actually next month (March) he turns 2! I don't think it's a health issue because he just had blood work done a month ago when he had his "big boy" surgery done. All was well then. Do you think his health could have changed within a month? Anyway, it's been about 2 weeks that I noticed his hair was getting very oily a few days after I bathed him. He doesn't smell. He just looks very oily and he has been scratching like crazy too. But the scratching has been on/off again for some time now. He also picks up fleas every time he goes outside or to the park but when I look through his hair--I find very few fleas but yet he will scratch like crazy. He is currently on a flea treatment which has helped to control it but lately he has been scratching big time. Did you find the spray at the same place you found that other thing? Petsmart, Petco? Also, have any of you tried a good dry shampoo? Thanks for giving me some info! |
