Omg, thats horrible! Never seen anything like that. Thought it was like diabetes or something! Thanks!
I'm Diabetic and I am not sure I understand your comment. The vet gave me heartguard for Kiki. It is very important for the health of your baby. Take care! |

revolution Well my dog and cat share revolution. My vet said it was very good and much better to give to my animals....it is a heartworm and flea prevention all in one. So I don't have to buy all kinda medacines for my babies. And it goes on the back of their neck. It is only $89 for 6 months!!!! Which is pretty cheap considering it covers both of them. I bought the dose that is for 20-40 pounds???? The vet said it is ok. I take the tube....open it, put it in a syringe,...give my yorkie 0.3 cc and give my cat 0.4 cc. I don't use the whole tube but there is only 0.3 left in the tube.....(good enough for another yorkie.... :D )They don't seem to mind it and I feel better that they have it on them. Plus I'm in Louisiana so we have bugs all year round :( |
Nikko was also given Hartguard. My vet told me to give it to him all year round even though we have cold winter here. He says you do have the occassional stray mosquito even in the dead of winter. I know my apartment gets very warm and sometimes you can see an occassional rare mosquito. Even though the likelihood of him getting sick over the winter from a mosquito bite is minimal I don't really want to take a chance. I give it all year round. |
I give both my boys Heartguard. Bo goes to Houston twice a year with me so I keep Bo and Duncan on it all year around. The vet says that is best because there have been more outbreaks of heartworm than in the past here in Colorado. |
This has been an interesting thread. My dogs definately need it for fleas and mosquitos. However I am wondering what is the best one to use? |

Just a helpful hint for those of us that need to protect our little ones from fleas and ticks and you have multiple dogs. My vet advised me to purchase the larger doses (like for a lab) ~~~ then gave me the proper dosage to place on each dog. Saves me a ton of $$$$$ |

I am originally from Houston and just moved to Fort Worth, and Rocky is on sentinel. I will have him on it year round since I travel back a forth monthly to visit my mom. Plus the mosquitos are about the same in both places. |
when to start? at what age do you start heartworm meds?? My vet hasen't prescribed it to my 9 month old Boomer. |
Thats weird that your vet hasnt given you any heartworm meds. My dogs were started on it when they were pups. Ask him for it |
I thought it was kinda wierd too.. but he is the first dog of my own.. so I don't know what to expect, My friend has a st. bernard and her dog takes them.. compared to my yorkie, I thought it was because of the size. |
My vet start Rocky on heartworm meds when he reached 2lbs. He was 3 monthes old. |

That's a great idea. I need to ask my vet about that. I have 3 little ones, so I have to buy Frontline every month. |
