Do I Neuter "Jersey" in Jersey? Next month I plan to travel back to NJ and I am taking Jersey with me. I have lived in NJ my entire life until recently when I moved to Illinois. Jersey will be 8 months old when I am there and I am considering having him neutered by my very good friend who has her veterinary practice there. My question is should I do it then or wait? The reason for waiting is because at the current time, only one testicle has descended. If I wait is it possible that the other one will drop? Also, he has retained some of his baby teeth. I just don't know if I should wait to see if the testicle drops and also put off having the baby teeth removed or just do it next month, even though it will be a more invasive surgery. What are your thoughts? |
I don't have any personal experience with a male with undescended testicles, but my neighbor got a Cairn terrier puppy with that condition. She waited and waited, but still didn't descend so she finally just got him neutered via the more invasive procedure. He also had some retained baby teeth. Her vet told her that based on what he saw during the surgery, they would never have descended on their own. But my suggestion is always to go with a vet that you trust. Since this might be a slightly more complicated procedure, it would probably be worth your peace of mind to wait until you go back to NJ and have a vet that you know and trust take care of your baby. |
