Tooth brushing! Hello! So I've got some questions on brushing my furbaby's toothers. :D I'm picking up my baby girl Roxy next week, and I wanna be completely ready and prepared with everything whenever I get her! I've decided that I'm going to definitely brush her teeth because it is very important and I want to get her started early. Does any one have any good steps or guidelines to follow in starting this whole process? Because I know I don't want to just shove a toothbrush in her mouth and start going. I want it to be a positive experience each time, and slowly ease her into it. So let me know how you guys did it! I need your input! Also, preferred tooth brushes or toothpaste would be great! I don't have any tips because Callie had no problem with me brushing her teeth but I always talk to her when brushing them and give her a treat afterwards. I like the CET tooth paste in vanilla mint. I also use the small tooth brush from CET. |
Since she is a pup, I would first start rubbing her gums with your fingers just to get her used to the process. Until you feel comfortable using a brush, try wrapping guaze around your finger and using it as a toothbrush. I just brushed my 2's teeth tonight and I use a childs tooth brush. I think I'm going to go back to the doggie brush and use the small end. I think that the brushes I have may be too big for them. Mine are 3 and 4. Good luck and congrats on your baby. :) |
I have to give you some encouragement: I've brushed my 8 year old Dolly's teeth almost every day since she was a puppy & she still hasn't ever needed them cleaned! This week my vet said she should be a poster child for dog teeth brushing! I adopted my little Teena when she was 2 & she needed her teeth cleaned then, but since then she still has beautiful pearly whites. Good luck! |
I have no advice here. I bought a kid-sized electric toothbrush for my 2 girls and have yet to use it. I probably used petzlife oral gel on them once or twice. I wish I wasn't so lazy! lol. But I do want to say :welcome4: 2 YT! ;) |
I've always used children's toothbrushes, BTW. |
I started slow with Taycie when she was a puppy. At first I just started with toothpaste on my finger and she would lick it off.. Then I moved to gauze around my finger, then a toddler size toothbrush. I use the 4-24 months from Oral B. It is the smallest one and works the best for Taycie A brush with fun Disney characters for babies, 4 to 24 months old. As far as toothpaste. I love CET. I like the Vanilla Mint. |
I use the CET beef flavored tooth paste and kids toothbrushes from the Dollar store. |
