Dental issues I would like to ask how many of you feel about brushing your dogs teeth? I have been using dental wipes, today I switched to a soft baby tooth brush and Mogwi's gums bled a little, he is two years old is this normal? What paste do you recommend? |
Since Jackson's dental in November, I've been brushing his teeth every night since. Got his teeth perfect and white and I plan on keeping them that way. He went in for other dental surgery but also got a cleaning while under. CET toothpaste is what his dentist recommended. We use beef flavored. He actually seems to like it which is a huge change from him running from the toothbrush before :) I also use Petzlife occasionally (example - if we stay at someones elses house, dogsitting, or whatnot, I'll rub some of that on in replacement of brushing for the night). I also purchased Proden PlaqueOff over a year ago so I'll sprinkle that on his food a few times a week (though, I rally have no clue how well this works). Oh and HealthyMouth is a new product I was introudced to her on YT by someone and it's pricey but I bought a gel... it's the only one who has had actual clinical trials and approved by the VOHC so, I like it. |
I think its every important to brush your dogs teeth. Between Callie loving to chew on bones, a weekly brushing and weekly treating of her teeth with oravet she has very little to no tarter and she is gonna be 5 in May (sheesh time goes so fast) I like CET tooth paste in vanilla mint. I would talk to the vet about the bleeding I'm not sure what it means. Are you possibly brushing to hard? |
The gums bleeding may or may not be a sign of concern. Teddy's gums were bleeding a little and I was worried and had my vet take a look. They suggested that I continue to brush the area with a soft toothbrush. As the gums were stimulated they did not bleed anymore. If it continues I'd talk to your vet. We also use CET products - we like vanilla mint, poultry or malt flavors. We brush a couple of times a week, but every day is best! |
Thank you for the response! I had been using dental wipes but I switched to a baby's soft toothbrush last night for the first time. He has a vet appointment next week anyway so I will ask her and if the gums bleed again tonight I will take him in sooner. |
