What's the Best dry food to feed my puppy? I'm bringing a puppy home the end of january, and I have no idea what kind of "dry food" is best for my puppy. I used to feed my little Belle "Eukanuba", but I've heard bad things about it, and now I have no idea what to feed my new member of the family. What kind of food do you feed your fur butts? Any suggestions? I really need help. :animal-pa Thank you so much!!!! |
You need to keep her on the food she is eating for a few weeks after bringing her home so there aren't to many stressful changes for her. |
Actually you can change her food..I just got another pup....He was on Smith and Foster...I feed Merricks....do a gradual change...just add a little of the new food you are going to use into the food she is already eating....add a little bit more each day until you have changed her over...Bentley would not eat his food when he came home...I am feeding merricks puppy plate...he isn't crazy about it...he will steal his sisters adult food...he is 5 months old and I know he should still be on puppy but, he has to eat something....I also started home cooking for them. and you are right...eukanuba isn't a great food for them... |
I really like Blue Buffalo & I do some home made also. |

There are many, many choices for good foods. There is not one brand that suits all Yorkies. Good suggestion making the change slowly. |

I think it just depends on the puppy. Some dogs can tolerate food switches very easily. I dogsat for a 5 month old pup for the past 10 days who was eating Beneful and switched cold turkey to Acana perfectly fine, in fact the improvements made within that short timespan were awesome. :) But then some pups will get major cannon butt when doing it, so I guess it's best to be on the safe side if you have a new pup with an unknown digestive tract. ;) Once you get to know your dog better, you can figure out how fast they can switch, etc. My personal favorites are Fromm and Acana. :) |
Abby came home on regular Wellness(a couple days worth in a bag) , I figured I would buy a bag and transition her to the Taste of the Wild the other two eat.She would have none of that- she wouldn't eat the Wellness and gobbled up the TOTW- all for good , her poops firmed up and her energy was much better. You could see the difference as her hair grew in! |
