Something's wrong with Bella Hi, I'm asking for prayers for Bella. She was fine last night, and fine at 3am. However, about ten minutes ago she went potty (urine) and it smelled to high heaven. I could smell it across the room...normally her potty doesn't smell at all. She then stepped off her potty pad and began to drag her bottom. I know she doesn't have worms, because she was just seen at the vet's last week, and sorry to be graphic, but he put a blue stick in her tushy and said she didn't have any signs of worms at all and everything looked fine. She also had a dewormer the week prior to that (no worms were seen then either, he just gave it to her to be on the safe side). She also wouldn't eat her kibble this morning, but did eat a Tablespoon of the wet stuff (Prescription a/d critical care canned). The vet gave this to her on her first visit and said to give her some mixed with her other food since she wasn't keen on eating her first day but needed the calories (new home nerves). This was an unopened can with an exp date of 11/2013. She gobbled it up in nothing flat, but normally loves eating her regular kibble (she's not a picky eater by any means). I have no idea what's going on and I know this probably isn't nearly as serious as a lot of other illnesses and injuries here at YT, but it's serious to me because she's my "baby" and I love her...and something is not right. My husband is coming home in about 10 minutes to take her to the vet with me. I've already called them and told them we're coming in shortly. Anyway...if anyone can spare some prayers for Bella, even though it's probably not something extreme or life-threatening...I'd really appreciate it.:( I'll update when I can. |
Oh you are doing the right thing by taking Bella to the vet. A strong smell in urine does not sound o.k. I am praying that there is nothing seriously wrong with Bella and she will feel better soon. |
Sending prayers for Bella. You are such a good mommy to get her into the drs today. Keep us posted on what you find out. |
Hopefully it is just a UTI and with some antibiotics she will be good as new. Hoping for the best, I agree with getting right to the vet especially if it is an infection of some sorts. Good Luck. |
The will drag their bottom if they have a little cling on after potting..check her bottom to make sure that it is clean...LOL i have one that acts like the world is coming to a complete halt if she gets a cling.. |
i hope bella is ok!!! saying prayers. keep us posted. |
It could be a UTI as Rose said. Try not to freak out until you have answers. Hugs. |
Im praying for little Bella. I hope you get answers at the vet |
I hope everything is ok. My baby is a Morkie named Bella too. |
Sending prayers for your little Bella. UTI is a possibility, as has been mentioned. Since she was dragging her bottom, have you checked to see if she had any poo stuck on her bottom. You might also have him check her anal glands. It's possible they need emptying or could be infected. |
Thanks all. My husband is *way* late...grrrrr. Bella is all ready to go with her li'l shirt on. I'm sure you're right, it's probably a UTI but I still don't understand how she would have gotten one. She gets fresh water several times daily in a stainless steel bowl, and gets bathed once a week (in the shower). She doesn't go outside, as she's too small and it's too blasted cold out there. As a side note, she did have some enzyme testing and bloodwork when we first got her and everything was perfectly fine. Annnnd as soon as I start getting angry at the husband, his car pulls up. heading out the door now. |
Sending prayers that all is Ok with Bella. |
Just now seeing this thread.... praying that Bella is okay! |
Sending prayers your way, so glad you can take her to the vet. I hope he can get to the bottom of this. |
Hi all, I'm sorry it took so long to update you, that was rude. Bella does not have a UTI. Apparently what is going on is that she's not drinking enough in ratio to her activity, so her urine was very concentrated and when urine is concentrated it's very strong smelling. She always has fresh water several times a day, but she plays her little heart out and spaces drinking...so from now on I have to literally stop her and move her to the water dish until she understands that it's okay to stop playing and drink. He said she'll be fine. This was weird to me because I thought by instinct puppies would know when they need liquids. As far as dragging her bottom on the floor, he had no idea. Her anal glands were not compacted or infected, no worms, and exam showed no abnormalities. He said she may have had stool or another object stuck on her bottom, so it may have come off after dragging. I didn't find any on the floor near her potty pad. She has pooped twice since I posted, and she isn't constipated (it's well formed). He gave her another dewormer "just in case", but said if she continues to drag her bottom, bring her back in for further evaluation along with a stool sample. He gave me a funky little tube-thingy to use. She hasn't done it since, but I don't know why she did in the first place. Her urine doesn't smell this afternoon. Thank you for the prayers and warm thoughts. I was alarmed (and alarmed y'all) for no reason. |
You did not alarm us for no reason. It was for a good reason - Bella!:) She may have been dragging her rear on the floor simply because she needed to go potty. It sounds like her bowels were pretty full. I'm glad you have some answers. The longer you have them, it becomes easier to understand what is wrong. At least, sometimes it is that way.:) |

Thus far she's acting fine, her potty doesn't smell, and her poopy is normal. ...I hate it when I flip out without knowing first what's going on with her. |
Happy to hear that Bella is going to be fine. I think we all flip out when our pups aren't acting right. Did the same thing when my son was young, part of being a good "parent". |

(((hug))) to you and Bella Bobbi |
So happy to hear Bella is better and back to normal! Not to hijack your thread BUT I too had a bit of a scare with Romeo and had to rush off to the vet. He was dehydrated and doing better now after some fluids and food. |

She finally got to sleep about ten minutes ago, and I'm right behind her shortly. She really is fine, but this morning I wasn't so sure. I couldn't believe the smell! This afternoon I was stopping her mid-play and sort of twirling my finger around in her water dish, and she drank quite a bit, but nothing until I sort of encouraged her to drink it. She has more interest in her piggy, squeaker, rope and teddy than sitting around drinking water. As the afternoon turned into evening, she got the idea, and stopped by herself to get a drink; I'm very happy about that. So glad Romeo is better too!!:aimeeyork |
Great to hear both Bella and Romeo are doing good. I will have to watch Bella to make sure she is drinking enough.....thanks for sharing your experience. |
