Help with diarrhea from food change? Started my Bella on new food Fromm yesterday with grain free and higher protein. Started mixing with her old food but she picked all the new out and now has diarrhea. I have two yorkies I was changing and only added 1/4 cup to the old food for both. Trying to cut food out until later tonite but she is barking to eat. She is acting fine. Read where she could have yogurt and wondered how much yogurt to give to a 5 to 6 lb? I feel it will cure itself by fasting until late tonite but she is barking to eat. Any suggestions? Thanks |
Hi i had a similar problem with my yorkie when I changed from old hypo allergic food to the Blue buffalo 100% grain free food - high protein food. The vet told me to first mix the old food with the new food for at least 5 days, before you actually start off with the new food. So for a week give your dog a mixture of both foods together, and than the 6 day start just the new food. This should help. It worked for me. Thanks Hope this helps, |

I would hold off on the yogurt until everything is back to normal. Go easy with the yogurt. It can cause problems too. My boys are 8 and 9 pounds and they have less than a teaspoon a day. |
Regarding the barking to eat -- distract her with some playtime. :) |
One more post....how much are you feeding Bella per day? Max is 9 pounds and eats 3/4 cup of a food that is 380 calories/cup. The Fromm grain free is about 480 cal/cup, so for a 5-6 pound dog, I would guess no more than half a cup a day. That might be too much. Take into account any treats or additional food. |
