Callie not eating Things seemed to be going to well I guess now Callie hasn't wanted to eat for two days. Wont eat either flavors of her Orijen dog food I have that she has been eating or the wet wellness food I bought when she wasn't drinking well and I was trying to get water into her. I found a sample bag I got a few weeks ago of Canidae pure sky and got her to eat a little this morning and a little tonight but not much. I know that changing her food every time she wont eat isn't good because it will make them picky but I'm so worried when she wont eat and its not like she just wont eat out her bowl shes not wanting to eat when I hand feed her and that normally always gets her eating. Normally Callie isn't picky about her dry food especially if there is chicken in it. All she has done today is sleep uninterested in any bones or anything else. When she has been on laps today she has wanted back into her pen and wont be still until she is put back in. She is drinking ok and potting ok. She isn't shaking or panting like she is in any pain. She seems depressed. Do you think its probably just her being a little depressed or that something is wrong? |
What pain drugs is she on right now? Are her gums pink and wet? |

How many days after stopping the pain meds did the depression start? |
She had her last pain pill Wednesday afternoon and Friday is when she started to not want to eat although she did chew on a bully stick some but today is the first day she has not done anything but sleep except when I take her out to potty. |
I'd have to assume she is in pain. No shaking or panting is necessary. They can hide it very well. Ellie lays around like that when her back hurts. |
Do you think I should call the vet? I don't have any tramdol left they only gave me enough for 14 days but I do have Previcox left. |
Not eating is not a good sign. She isn't throwing up or anything, right? Yes, you should call the vet and tell her she is depressed with no appetite. Inappetance is one of the deciding factors about whether to use pain meds or add more in, etc. If they are feeling terrible, they don't eat. |
Not throwing up. Thanks. I will call the vet. |
Well we called the vet hospital where Callie had her surgery they said to just keep an eye on her and if she keeps acting the same way I could take her to my vet tomorrow or bring her to there vet hospital. She ate a little bit of food around 10am this morning but about and hour ago 1pm she threw up and it was yellow. She seems alert and her little tail is wagging. I have a feeling we will be going to the vet tomorrow..... |
Is she pooping normally? Still very possible pain. So many things can make them not want to eat. Honestly, this symptom is one that really alerts my vet that testing is immediately needed. It ihas been 3 days that she doesn't really want to eat, wants to just lay there, and now is having problems keeping food down. Vet tomorrow at the very LATEST. Anymore weird symptoms and I'd really think about going somewhere this weekend. Had these symptoms started yesterday or whatever, there wouldn't be such a rush. Three days with these symptoms is a lot though. Is she drinking? |
She is pooping normally and she is drinking. |
Callie chewed on her bone for a long time last night and this morning ate more food then she has in a few days and was excited about it. |
