Cat Food Since I moved in with my boyfriend my dog has completely ignored her dog food (canine caviar) and choses to eat my boyfriend's cat's food. So far she seems fine and her stool is solid and fine. Should I be worried that she keeps eating the cat food? |
I'm not an expert and would suggest you talk with a vet, BUT I have a friend who had an old dog who was starting to be very lethargic and they thought she was dying. They took her in, determined that she had been eating the cat food. Put the cat food up high, she made a strong comeback and lived another few years. |
It's surprising because she is such a picky eater... We should be making a visit to (hopefully) our new vet next week. |
Cat food is like "puppy crack" to Rizzo, I have to keep the food out of reach as well as the litter box because apparently it tastes just as good "second time around" yuck! Cat food is bad for dogs because it has too much protein I think. You should keep the cat food out of reach and make sure she is getting the nutrients she needs with her food. |
I'm not a food expert, but the research I've done has told me cat food is not good for dogs. Keep the cat food up high where the cat can get it and your dog can't. |
Dogs have an entirely different digestive system than cats (for the most part). They just aren't the same nutritionally. I am sure if they eat it every once in a while it's not going to hurt anything. But there's no reason to allow it. |
Dogs love cat food because it's higher in fat. The problem with letting a dog have it even once is that it is higher in fat. A dog predisposed to pancreatitis could be adversely affected by it. So your pup should only be given dog food. However, some very underweight small dogs do well on cat food. In some cases it is acceptable. This should only be attempted under the oversight of a veterinary nutritionist. |
