Kennel Cough to Heart problem?? Hi everyone. Nicky is 17 weeks old and finally the kennel cough subsided! It was a round of Zythromax that finally helped...and a dozen vet visits. They saw something on the Xray that showed his Aorta of his heart not compleatly aligned, or some kind of dialation. He "snorts" and tries to catch his breath now and then so I am wondering is this a heart problem???? They said they cant be sure what it is unless he has an echocardiogram. Any experience?? |
Is he reverse sneezing? If an echo is being recommended for abnormalities found on other diagnostic imaging, I would not wait. Time for a cardiology consult. |
It looks like Ellie May is giving good advice, and I am no health expert, just wanted to say how sorry I am that your little one is having difficulties. |

I'll make it a third - please get the echo ASAP. I would not take a wait and see approach w this. |
Thank you and it's in the Plan. He has stopped coughing and sneezing for the most part. I think the zythromax finally helped. But if they saw something strange on his chest xray, then of course. |
I have my Pup Brandy and she has Kennel cough. I have been to the vet and know how hard it can be. If your vet recommends an echo do it ask if they offer discounts because you been going their for treatment. My Brandy since the kennel cough developed bronchitis and she is at the vets office hopefully for a few days. I have been doing everything I can to get her better. So I wish you luck. |
Cough is Better Thanks for the Reply! Nicky is doing much better. It did turn into bronchitis, and the specialist (internist) put him on Zythromax. After 5 days the coughing subsided and now it's almost 100% gone! Finally. He is off it now and has to do another 5 days of it in a week. Just coughs occasionally. , but so much better now. I was so worried. Never had any dog go through that. May still go with the echo though. |

I would strongly advise a cardiologist. Just because his cough is better, does not mean he does not have a cardiac problem. You need to find out .. he might need medication or something! |
