Royal Canine for Yorkie Poodle Mix Hi everyone, I am new to posting (although not to lurking around the forums) and had a quick question. Sorry, this is not about a purebred yorkie. I have a 4 month yorkie poodle mix (hes 3/4 yorkie and acts 100% yorkie). I was prescribed Royal Canine Gastrointestinal food to clear up some diarrhea. I always thought he wasn't a big eater, but wow.. he just plows through his food! He has never been so excited to be eat! So I made the decision to switch him from his Wellness Small Breed Puppy, to Royal Canine. I noticed they make a mini puppy food, as well as a yorkie specific puppy food. They suggest only feeding it to purebreds, however I find that all of the benefits that they state the yorkie blend has, are things that Cobalt and I have trouble with. (Digestive system, picky eater, etc). Has anyone ever fed breed specific food to a hybrid pup? Do you think it would be detrimental to feed him the Yorkie blend? |
I really like RC. Taycie is on one the RX diets and is doing wonderful. I know they have other food available that are not breed specific have you looked into those? As far as breed specific, and this is just my personal opionion but I really think you would be ok to try the Yorkshire Terrier one if you want. Here is a link to there website that has other foods listed Royal Canin Products Have you talked to your vet about just keeping in the Gastrointestinal? They may also have some other recommendations as well. |
Thanks so much for getting back to me! I spent an hour+ this morning comparing all of the formulas they offer. haha and I am torn between the mini puppy and the yorkie puppy. I will probably try the mini first to see if he likes it, and go from there. I did talk to the vet about keeping him on the gastro, but she feels that assuming he does not need it long term, its best to feed him a regular food and suggested trying a non-rx royal canine line. At least you can bring it back if he doesn't like it! :) |
