Nail Pulled half way out I'm NEW here!! And I have a 5 month old yorkie. Yesterday she managed to get her nail caught in something and pulled it half way out. She bled and ended up cleaning her self up like a normal pup would. But today she is babying that paw and it not anyhere close to as playful as she usually is. I don't know what to do with her. Should I clean it up or should I make a vet appointment. When I called the vet yesterday she said don't worry about it but it makes me nervous. Let me know if you have any suggestions!! Thanks |
If she were mine I would have been to the vet when I first saw it. I would be afraid of infection at the least. |
She needs to go to the vet. Please let us know how she is doing after your appointment. Was this a dew claw that got caught? If so I would suggest that you have it and any others removed during her spay. |
Hope she is at the vet! Keep us posted. |
I wondered the same thing and the vet was like nope don't worry about it. But it makes me worry that shes not very active today. I will keep an eye on it and call the vet again and see what she says. If its worse by tonight I wil be taking her in tomorrow. |

Please take her to a vet ASAP...and update us so we know how she is doing. The pain has got to be pretty bad and infection is a huge risk. |
I would take her to the vet. |
My brother's pup (non-yorkie, but similar situation) has snagged his dew claw a couple of times. We just take him to the vet as a walk-in, and let them clean, cauterize, and bandage the nail - or do whatever needs to be done. It looks terribly painful, and I wouldn't want to risk waiting around for infection to set in or the pain to get worse. |
My previous dog [a Schipperke...] had this happen. I took him to the Vet, immediately where they had to give him some type of cortisone shot and bandaged his paw up. |
Are you at the vet???? |
