Artemis?? Does anyone feed there little guys it? I have been offered a 15lb bag of it for free and I wanted to know if anyone else used it, and if so what was your expierence on it? I am feeding him RC for yorkies right now and he is slowly getting bored by it, so I just want to make sure this change is going to be a good one? :) |
HI Kaos, I think Artemis Small Breed Adult is a really good food. No upset tummies, poo nicely formed, and moderate protein levels. Until recently, I was giving it to me 6 year old Yorkie but had to stop b/c liver shunt diagnosis. However, I have a 8 month old yorkie who loves the Artemis Small Breed Puppy. I will transition her to the adult food pretty soon. Con- I can't readily purchase it in my area. I've had to order it online from an approved retailer. Erica |

Ah thanks, :) I started switching him from RC to Artemis, last week. He is still adjusting. I was just worried because I hadn't heard much about it here on YT. I will have to order it in the future online as well, because the retailers aren't close to me. He seems to love it, so far so good. :p |
Sheesh.... seems we all go through the same issues. So, how often do you change foods? I never even thought about them getting bored with their food - but it makes sense. Brutus is eating Acana Wild Prarie he had stopped eating so off to the vet we went. The vet said it was due to teething. I started crushing up his food and then the past few days he has eaten but has seemed bored with it. I actually had to put some turkey in his dinner tonight just so he would eat as I had to pull the food dish at 6 (procedures tomorrow) and he normally eats his last meal at 7. I will bounce off of the OP - and ask a question - should I have multiple foods so he doesn't get bored with his food? |
If you change foods when your pup gets pickier, it will just make the problem worse. All the rotating and such talked about is not necessary. I'd feed one good quality food until your pup no longer does well on it. |
I totally agree. I would not change his food as a puppy because he will become a pickier eater. I only took Kaos off his RC adult food because I wanted to switch him to a higher quality food. I looked up the highest quality foods and sent them an email. Artemis sent me a 15 lb bag, so thats who I went with, and he loves it. :) Oh and he actually wasn't bored with his RC. He had a tummy bug and I didnt realize until after my original post. I was lucky because he is NOT a picky eater at all. |
I like rotating but I agree that I would not keep switching it up every time the pup seems to get sick of it. If that makes sense. I typically do every other bag. So I feed one bag of one brand, then I feed another flavor of the same brand, then I go back to the other, etc. But if Jackson decides not to eat a meal one day, I don't go rushing out to buy a new food. He eats what I have available. I like rotating for a lot of other reasons too. I like giving him a variety. He does have his preferences of kibbles and protein sources and I don't mind giving him something he likes, versus he food he absolutely despises. It's nice to see him enjoying his food. But I also wouldn't cater to every whim or every time a pup decides to be picky. They learn how to train us! LOL. |

There are many opinions on what foods are actually high quality. There are a few sites that rate them, so people tend to go with the higher starred foods. However, the authors of these sites don't have the credentials to be rating dog food like that. And even if they did have some idea about what ingredients are good and bad (which is debatable), they don't take quality control and company trustworthiness into the equation at all. When emailing a bunch of dog food companies inquiring about their standards, I wasn't satisfied with Artemis's "for my dogs" and RC was the clear winner if I had to choose between the two. But that's my comfort level for my pups. Good luck with your pup. |
I emailed Artemis while looking for what food I wanted to feed my new pup. Just wanted to share the response. I like the fact that their first four ingredients are meat. The breeder has my new puppy on life's abundance and I am going to stick with that but may possibly try Artemis in the future. Me Question: I was interested in trying the Artemis small breed puppy food for my angel. I wanted to know if artemis purchases any supplies, meat, grains, or anything from China? Also what is in the "fish meal" located on the ingredient list? Artemis Thank you for contacting us. Your questions are not suitable for our Vet team, so I’ll help answer your questions. *The only ingredient originating from China is our vitamins and minerals. *The raw ingredients are produced in China, but the formulating and blending of the ingredients are done here in the United States.* Most companies will neglect to tell their customers that the actual raw ingredients of their vitamins/minerals are from China. *Our products are always tested for any type of toxins and purity and our products have never been apart of any type of recall.* The fish used in our fish meal is Menhaden fish. |
