Am I nuts? I feed Peanut Acana, right now he is on the Ranchland. I think the kibble is a little too big for him.. He eats it ok, but he will chew and crunch only 1 kibble at a time.. So I started to cut them in 4 pieces :D I hate to say that he eats his dry food as he should. I mean he always ate, but it seems like he enjoys it more LoL- Is that possible? Maybe it is easier for him to eat so he enjoys it. DH said I was doing a good thing, he thinks the size of the Acana would be like a quarter size of a corn nut to us... I wish Acana would come out with smaller bites.. I honestly have been thru so much food, Acana is working very well with us and I do not want to switch again, so I have to cut my babies kibble up :D |
I don't think you are nuts at all. I am afraid to feed kibble that is too large as I have seen little dogs choke to death on too large of kibble. |
No, you're not nuts - I'M nuts!!! :D When Harry was small, his kibble was quite small, but not small enough (if you know what I mean!). When I cut it, it would shoot across the kitchen, so do you know what I did? I bit it in half, then smaller if necessary!!! It actually tasted quite nice!! Oh dear. Sally + Harry x |
LOL, I think Vivian used to cut up her Snicker's Acana kibble with a nutcracker, LoL!! You are not nuts! So funny- Jackson can be picky with kibble size. He tends to not like really tiny kibbles and he likes bigger kibbles, but does ok with medium sized ones too. Jackson's yorkie friends Bandit (4.5lbs) and Nala (6lbs) eat Acana and they seem to do okay with it, but every pup is different! |
haha, Ive also done both, cut it, bit it, I bought a slap chop and now I chop it. |
1 Attachment(s) My foster's kibble is too large and they were feeding it piece by piece, because he didn't chew and would swallow it whole. I started breaking it and he started chewing it. I think this also makes it easier to digest. A tip on breaking it, I put a cup of food in a thick plastic bag and hammer with the flat side of meat tenderizer mallet. It’s much faster than cutting each piece. |

:sidesplt::sidesplt: The meat tenderizer is a good idea! I used a mallet on it (when it's in a Ziploc bag) and have also put it in the food processor! |
That is a better tool LoL- are those expensive? I've been using Dh's electric wire cutters. Hahaha they work great but it is time consuming! |
Brutus eats Acana Wild Prarie and enjoys it. I never thought about cutting it up, but I will definately do tonight - especially since he is teething. What a great idea and simple solution. |

Brutus just had his dinner and the mallet worked wonders! That is why I love this forum so much, such wonderful advice. |
My first thought was to try a pill cutter to cut the Acana. |
