Drastic Change in Eating Habits??? Brutus is on a feeding schedule - 3 times a day. Up until yesterday he has always gotten excited, jumping around, etc when we say "time to eat" and he eats very fast. All 3 feedings yesterday and this morning things have changed. He wags his butt as we are preparing his meal but he is eating slow and started taking a few kibbles to another room, will eat them SLOWLY go back to his food, sniff and grab a few more. He has eaten all of his food, but this isn't normal for him. Nothing has changed in his diet. Anyone else ever gone through this? I am calling my vet (when they open in 10 min)as I tend to be a worry wart. |
Yorkies can suddenly become picky. Did somebody give him new treats or people food that he wasn't used to (and now he is holding out for him)? Any vomiting, diarrhea, or weird intestinal noises? |
We have no new treats and do not give him people food due to his sensitive tummy. He is acting normal - no vomiting or diarrhea. I'm stumped. |
If he is young, his growing may have slowed down and he just isnt as hungry. Mina is 10mths old. She has two feedings a day with a little snack inbetween. Some days she eats like noone is feeding her and some days she will only eat a little. As long as she eats something so her bloodsugars dont crash,I dont worry. |
Could he be upset for any reason??? |
Have you checked his teeth? Is it possible that he is losing his baby teeth and/or has something causing pain in his mouth? |

You are right- It's teeth! I couldn't stop worrying, so I took him to the vet. He said Brutus has adult teeth coming in and some baby teeth missing. I guess the dry kibble was hurting when he chewed. We got 3 days of pain medicine and some of his wet ID food to use for the next few days. He is also up to 5.9 lbs. |
Oh, he scarfed the wet food down once we got home. Poor little baby was really hungry. |

Well, since we took Brutus off the wet ID food, we have always put water in his kibble. Since he was still having issues eating that, the vet suggested mixing some of the wet ID with our kibble mix. Hopefully it will only be for a few days. I felt so relieved to hear it was just teething issues. The vet probably thought I was nuts to bring him in, but I know my dog and knew something wasn't right. The cost of the vet visit was worth making sure nothing serious was going on and definately peace of mind for me. |

So glad to hear it's only his teeth, and now the little guy can fill his belly! :D |
