eating peepads Ok sorry if this was posted before, I couldnt find it. For the past two days Muffin has been eating his peepads in his crate! What do I do? He has been using them for about a week now and just started two days ago. Bugging me! will it hurt him? Is it from boredom, or does he just like his pee? What do I do? Thanks! MuffinsMom Oh yeah he is still eating his fleece bed too! |
Oh, She-ra was bad about that. She would tear them to shreds and roll in them. Very gross, I know. I finally switched her to newspaper and she was fine. |
Did you recently switch brands of pads? I know this sounds nuts, but a few weeks ago I had the same problem when I switched the WalMart brand. I finally went back to petco brand and the girls immediatly stopped shredding. Just a thought! |
I've never used a crate so I don't know about that...but are you supposed to put the pee pee pads in there??? I pee pee pad trained my puppies and they ALL went through a phase where they would shred them to bits!! Some days when we'd come home from an outing it would look like it had snowed in our house, LOL :p ! The phase did pass though and they don't do that anymore :) |

Pixie has been shredding her pads since the first day we brough her home... Granted, that was only two weeks ago, but she's destroyed way to many of them already! I always have to put two in her little area... one to use and one to shred. If I don't put the extra one in there, she shreds the one and then has nothing to use (if she even tries to use it anyway). I actually ordered washable ones from piddlepads.com.... We'll see how they work. (I know the thought of washing that in your washer grosses some people out, but I plan on rinsing them very, VERY well in the utility sink before using the washer!) I just figured she wouldn't be able to shred these, and she doesn't like piddling on the pads anyway. She'll go right next to it (but always lands #2 right in the middle!) Hopefully she'll like these better and actually use them instead of just tearing them to bits! |

All of our yorkies were using the pee pads and had an occassional one that would be torn or they might decide to play with it. When the Biewers came, Leo and Hannah thought it was a riot to play tug of war with them and I was constantly cleaning them up. One of the threads here at YT mentioned washable pads with a website http://valethics.com I've ordered three different shipments of them and plan on using them in the whelping beds this next month (we've got three litters due). Wish I'd found them sooner. :) |
I am thankful my Yorkie is not tearing up her pee pads - not that she won't start sometime in the future! When my Bichon was a little puppy, he shredded his to pieces the first time he ever saw one. They do have the pee pad holders. These would probably really help -because they enclose the all the edges all the way around, and the puppies can't get hold of them. This may work for some dogs. But I am sure there are some who still find a way to shred them to pieces. Good luck! Carol Jean |
The pee pee pad holders DO work...we got one at Petsmart for about 20 dollars...well worth the money :) |
