Finally! It seemed like I was going in circles with Gizmo and his GI issues. I called the vet and talked with the vet tech who said he'd talk to the vet. Within an hour my vet called me back agreeing that a special diet may be required at this point. She recommended Science Diet I/D and if that didn't work, we'd go to allergy free route. So far, Gizmo loves his food. Gobbles it up completely. He's been pooping normal! Just two times a day and he's not overly thirsty and been just happy. Finally! Hopefully, this ends our GI issues. I've been looking for treats and he seems to do okay with Cheerios. I know that's what Maizey's breeder recommended for her pups as training rewards since they're very bland. Gizmo loves apples, I'm just afraid to give them to him. |
YAY! Hoping this ends your GI issues. I can only imagine how Frustrating it has been. I have also heard that cherrios were good as a treat. I have been meaning to buy a box. :) |
Glad you found somethign that is working for Gizmo and that he likes! It is very stressful when they are having GI issues. |
I can't believe that he just gobbled it up! And still is. His new thing is, he'll go over to his bowl (which is on the nice living room rug because the kitchen tile is too cold ) and if there's no food, he'll come over and yip at me. He'll only stop when I put his dinner to breakfest down.. Little stinker! |
I thought he was doing okay on the other food you told me you were trying? What else happened with his stomach? I thought he also had stomach problems, or some issue, on the SD I/D too. Just seems like he's had an awful lot of issues in a short amount of time. What type of issues happen? Vomiting, diarrhea, etc? |
He was itching on the past food, and I thought that maybe it was the weather change and didn't pay much attention to it. Then, he started vomiting and major runs. He woke us up in the middle of the night panicing because he e needed to go out and then he vomited again. He's been on W/D before, loved it..But since it was so high in fiber he was pooping non stop. |
I'm just not sure you are giving each food enough time. I've been guilty of doing this too. I think some issues you can tell right away. On certain foods, Jackson's eye boogers immediately stop, or start. But big issues can take weeks to show or clear up, especially allergies. How many foods has he been on in the past, say, eight weeks? I would keep a record of every day he throws up, every time he has loose stools or diarrhea and what he ate that day, when he ate it, etc. |
I'm happy that you found a food that works for him and that he is doing well on :) |
