OMG!!! Scooting again! HELP!!! Last week Latte was scooting like crazy-so much that her vaginal area was red and raw. We took her to the vet and they did $400 of testing and gave her an antibiotic shot and a log acting anti-inflammatory. They checked her anal sacs, said they were fine and did a urine test-it was fine and said at the end that it's a vaginal infection. Now it's one week later-to the day-and she's scooting again!! Of course, not until after the vet's office closed. I have had her glands expressed every two weeks! Don't get me wrong, I like the vet and everyone who works there, but I don't want to end up with another infection. I changed her food-making sure that it's gradual and no corn, wheat, beef, chicken, yada, yada, yada, thinking that allergies were contributing to the itching. I am so frustrated!! I put her in her kennel so she can't rub herself raw. What else can it be??? I'm going to call tomorrow and ask, but ARRRGHHHHH! p.s She's 9 and I love her dearly, but she causes me so much anxiety!! |
Are you keeping the area clean? Maybe her pee is irritating it and after she goes potty you need to clean it with a warm cloth or maybe sensitive skin baby wipes. I would still cheek back with your vet and if it is another infection ask him what keeps causing it and what you can do to prevent it. |
Bless you!! Thank you for replying...it does feel better when someone understands--I think that may be true-she's very clean, but maybe a baby wipe (unscented, sensitive skin) would be helpful. I'll get some in the morning. I am going to call the vet's office, too, in the morning. |
Hoping that she is better today poor baby, sometimes they will scoot if they have worms |
scooting The vet expressed her anal glands and all in all pronounced her "healthy" except for this "vaginal infection". She had a really good day and I called the vet. The gal said that it could be her anal glands. (!) She scooted a bit tonight and I went out and got some poo-I can't see anything. Would I be able to see worms? I'm wondering if she had a vaginal infection, could it be yeast and maybe she needs an antifungal? They didn't give her that. I guess I will call them tomorrow and see what they think. I can call in the morning-I had a meeting today and couldn't call til later. I put some antibiotic cream on the area. She has been scooting for quite a while, so I'd really like to figure this out! (I have even kept a log, and I can't find any patterns!) |
You may or may not see worms in the stool. Sometimes testing at the vet can miss worms - so I would not eliminate the possibility of parasites. A yeast infection is another possibility. What about fleas? Is it possible that she may have a flea nibbling on her "little tootie"? Sending good vibes -- hope that Latte is itch free in the very near future. |
call to vet I called the vet today and told her my Scooting Woes. She thought the idea of a yeast infection was a good possibility, so I got an anti-fungal. She didn't want to give her another shot of the anti-inflammatory-it's too soon. So we're going to see how she does on the anti-fungal with a little of her cortisone, if she needs it. She was still scooting a bit tonight, but all in all, she's better. I always feel better when I have something that I can do to make her feel better-don't you?:) |
