Help Required My 8 month old female toy yorkie every now and then will curl up in a tight ball in corner of room and start to shake. sometime for as long as 20 minutes, then she is fine. is this normal ? or is there a reason for this. she seems very healthy all other times |
Callie curls in a tight ball and shakes when shes cold so I keep clothes on her most of the time but it could be something else not sure. |
Just a thought, but do you think she could be cold?? Mine does that sometimes when she's cold, and I put a sweater on her and she is fine. |
Thanks but she is not cold. do you think she could be scared of somthing shes seen in the garden. my wife has told me that this shaking can go on for over 1 hour somtimes :) |

Sounds like fear to me - or pain/illness. Very few dogs shake from cold in a house or apartment - it would really have to be cold. A lot of dogs shake from fear - a sound from TV or elsewhere they don't understand, something somebody said or did, et. If you need to, have the dog checked by vet to rule out pain or illness and then do some searching on YT and read everything you can about how to handle a Yorkie's fears. |

Have you tried snuggling her in a thick blanket, or getting one of those 'doughnut' beds and putting it in 'that' corner? I know Harry loves snuggling down into his, even when it's warm out! Sometimes there's a draught from a door that only they know about as they're so close to the ground :) Also, do you keep a tube of Nutrical at home, just in case? I have seen my dogs shiver from fear of something. My dogs also get cold and when they are cold will go and lay right in front of the heat vent. I have seen them shiver from being cold but for 20 min seems a bit much. If you feel that it is due from her being cold try putting her bed as close to the heat vent as possible. Do what ever it takes to make her feel safe and comfortable! |
Even though you feel it is not due to her being cold, I would still try putting on a sweater and then wrapping her in a soft fleece blanket and cuddling her until she stops shivering - (no, not for an hour!! Ha ha) she should warm up quickly if cold is the issue. Does she look frightened? I know that Tootsy gets a scared 'look' in her eyes if she is frightened. Failing this, I would get the vet to check her out, as pain causes them to shiver and you would, I am sure, be upset to find out she had been in pain and you had not taken her for a check up. I do hope you find the answer. Would you let us know how you get on? It may help someone else with a similar problem. |
