Bald spot on top of head I am new to this site but figured I'd post my question before calling my vet tomorrow morning. I found a bald spot on the very top of my 11 month old baby. It is slightly darker than her pale pink skin with an area of pallor surrounding it. My first thoughts were ring worm. Also, I noticed a few weeks ago an area of what looked to be new hair grown very close to this area which is a richer gold than the rest of her hair and is also shorter. Sometimes I feel like a crazy over-concerned new parent but she really does mean the world to me. I also fear mange and pray it is not that. I'd appreciate input if only to allay some of my fears! |

I do know that at times traction from an elastic or barrette onto the scalp area can cause hair loss. I hope this isn't serious and that your vet will have some encouraging news for you soon. Try not to worry or think the worst. |
Thanks for the good input. It did occur to me that it could be the barrette. It seems today like the hair around there comes out easier... Vet won't see us til Friday. We did very recently treat her with praziquantel because we suspected my sister's dog had tapeworm (they have been playing together a lot) and I'm worried that could have something to do with it. Me being in the medical profession I always think of the million possibilities but vet medicine is different from people medicine! Anyone have something similar to the pic?:aimeeyork |
Hopefully it is just from the barrettes, but I know what you mean about thinking of all the possibilities. Let us know how it goes at the vet. |

I can certainly relate to you with being in the medical profession for years as an RN. I know I always think the worst because having more knowledge can be a curse at times. LOL I hope this isn't anything serious for your baby and that it will clear up soon. I'll be checking back for updates on this thread and please take care and try not to worry. |
