Niko scratching his upper back a LOT! To make the story short, I noticed that Niko (3 years old) has started scratching his upper back ever since I put him on Blue Buffalo Grain-Free Wilderness Chicken Formula (small bites). He was originally on Orijen Chicken but not really happy about it so we switched him to Blue Buffalo which he loveeeeees! But he is suffering, scratching and nibbling on his upper back a lot! The gentleman at the premium food pet store suggested that he might be allergic to chicken (he has been on chicken formulas ever since we brought him home). So I got a bag of Now! Turkey and Duck Small Bites and am slowly switching him to this food. How long will it take until we hopefully see some improvement? Do you think that the chicken is the problem here? Vet did not see any fleas on him the last time we checked him (a month ago) and he said his skin looks healthy. He is on Frontline anyway. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks |
My Coby does this same exact thing. I first thought it was a food allergy, so I put him on Grain Free food a very long time ago. I do notice that he does it more ften when we are outside on walks. So, I have now convinced myself that it is an environmental allergy from grass, hay, etc. We live out in rural SC with lots of cow pastures around us, so even I have bad allergies due to it. I do know that an OTC antihistimine can help. Some give Benedryl or Zyrtec. Check with your vet first though. |
Did your vet do a skin scraping to check for mites? |
